Fanfic Guh

I'm stuck and it's not funny. I have the rough draft of Chapter Six, but I'm not happy. I'm just not happy. And I've already been unforgivably slow with the chapter.

Why is fanfic sometimes like pulling teeth? I am pea green with envy of the fanfic writers who seem to effortlessly produce in timely fashions. I can't seem to do that. I struggle. I have problems hammering it into shape. I hate what I've written because it simply doesn't sound right. Guh. And it's not that I don't have the chapter written, it's that I've re-written the opening conversation five times now. And I know I have to rewrite the fight scene and the end of the chapter.

Sigh. Wish I was better at this. . . and faster.

Why won't this chapter write itself? ::grumble, grumble::

I am so, so glad to hear someone else say this. Well, not glad that you're stuck; just glad that I'm not the only one whose chapters take forever to get written. I can have the entire day free and I'll maybe produce half a paragraph; I'm lucky if I post one chapter a month. I know what I want to have happen in the chapter, and I can visualize it in my head as if I'm seeing it on my TV screen, but putting it into words that flow and are lyrical and emotive and interesting -- that's a whole 'nuther ballgame. And meanwhile, most of my fic writer friends are joyfully typing out a fabulous chapter every evening!

Do not feel alone. I still have a post Season 6 fanfic (that I still WORK on) that I began...um... post Season 6.

It's just so frustrating when you know what you want but you cannot make it come out on the page.

Don't rush.

Your audience sits here patiently.... getting older.

Heh. Thanks. And I am writing, and I will finish! I just need to smack my muse around a little.

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] kassto; it's such a great fic, leave your audience gasping in anticipation! Besides, pressure only ever seems to work sometimes...

Thanks. I apprecitate it.

(Though I still feel like I should be finished by now. :)

::sigh:: I know just how you feel. Sending you empathy {{hugs}}.

Thanks, empathy hugs back.

Because fanfic is writing, and sometimes it's just like that?

How about it's damn difficult but that's part of its charm? :)

Just the way it is I guess... some chaps seem to write themselves and some are like getting blood from a stone... and sometimes the muse just tells you to sod off while he takes what he considers to be a well-earned break (or is that just MY overly temperamental muse?)

Wishing you the best with finishing the chap... but don't let it stress you... it will get done when it gets done!

Thanks.

I just... wish it would come out already! :)

You could always post it to the list, and we could pick holes in it.

Rewriting an important conversation five times sounds par for the course to me, but I'm probably not the best person to ask. *g*

::sheepishly:: It's not even an important conversation (or even a particularly important chapter). It's just banter. (And yeah, I plan to post it soon. I just need to rearrange the fight scene and introduce the Victorian Watcher a bit sooner. It's easier to convince him that Buffy IS the Slayer when she's in action rather than Buffy and Spike continuing to claim that she's 'Slayer from the future' (and yeah, they're both aware of how absurd that sounds. )
