Huh. Seems you can totally forget what you've ordered. Several months ago I pre-ordered the BtVS Spike Novel Spark and Burn. While doing so I must have wandered around Amazon in boredom, ordered a book, and forgot all about it. I also must have picked the option of shipping the books simultaneously. Yesterday I got notice that Spark and Burn had been shipped. . .along with Bull God.

Wha-huh? Then I remembered that I had ordered a Roberta Gellis Mythological novel. In the past I've found her sort of hit and miss on these novels (Enjoyed her re-telling of Hades and Persephone. Disliked her retelling of Orpheus and Eurydice.) But I was bored and looking for something (even though now I have a stack of Harry Dresden novels to read). So after receiving notice of the book being shipped I had to go back and look for what it was about:

Ariadne is the daughter of King Minos of Crete in the age of heros (almost 4000 years ago). She is picked to be the acolyte of Dionysus after her grandmother Europa dies. Much to the amazement of everyone and the jealousy of her mother, Dionysus actually answers her call. But King Minos has angered Poseidon, resulting in the birth of a monster -- the Minotaur. Gellis goes beyond the myths we studied in high school and ferrets out the details of the original stories, spinning them into a rich tapestry. All of the legend plays out for her readers: the labyrinth, Theseus (as a smooth-spoken jerk), the arrogant King Minos and the tormented Dionysus. Great fun.

Could be interesting. We'll see.

IIRC, Mary Renault wrote 2 novels based on the Theseus/Minotaur legend. It would be interesting to read both authors at the same time and compare/contrast. I might do that myself. . . if I ever get off me lazy arse.

The House of Crete Mythology (Minotaur/Daedalus/Icarus/Theseus) seems to be very popular with writers and artists from James joyce to Pablo Picasso to Anselm Kiefer. The sicko in me thinks that maybe its because part of the myth is about Bestiality. (Ok, I wont go there)

Anyways, my point is that I would like to see some mythological novels about the Greek Myths that *I* like. For instance -- the Story of the swift-footed Atalanta. Not *there* was an interesting chick!
