The JM/Spike fan angst should start changing tone and direction today... they have the comic to bitch over.

BTW -- Is the comic actually out? And if so, where can I order? I've forgotten who the publisher is.

(And for those taking the last name "Pratt" to heart. 1) It isn't spelled the same way. 2) And it's probably not intended to be taken TOO seriously, just an amusing play on words that poor William just couldn't get a break. It's not actually indicative of anything.)

Honestly, people shouldn't stay in fandoms that make them miserable. Why do they bother?

So you haven't lost your mind over Snape? See! There are sane, logical people even in the most wankerific of fandoms. :)

(And, yeah, the wank has gotten totally out of hand. I'm blaming it all on the heat -- not logical, but giving crazed fen people the benefit of a doubt).

I've discovered that it's *fans* that make me crazy, not the stories. So I stay way out on the bare fringes of Potter fandom - as in, I can smell the fandom, but not see it. :)

Anyway, I'm not worried. Snape is a good guy, and if he goes evil, I might just join him.

To be honest, I did worry for a while, but realized it was just that Joss and Marti had screwed us so badly that I no longer trust my own sense of story. I'm recovering now - slowly, but I'm recovering.

Heh. It's called Post Traumatic Joss Syndrome. Many of us suffer from it. :)

It rubbed me up the wrong way. It was just so un-necessary.

I honestly think PAD probably just thought it was amusing and wasn't a reflection on Spike at all. I was reading PAD's "I.Q." the other day and he has a very dark (and often twisted) sense of humor...which is actually what I like about him (and why I think he might be a very good writer for Spike). However, it's twisted in a way quite different than Joss's. It doesn't seem to be directed at his audience the way that Joss's was.

I can see PAD being like that, but I can't see Joss getting anything other than an evil laugh at the character/fans expense out of it. And that's what turns my stomach.

You're assuming Joss gives a hoot. I seriously doubt that his 'approval' of the comics amounts to more than a rubber stamp.

I think in this case it was more of a snicker of approval.
Which again - it's a personal thing - just rubs me up the wrong way.

I liked the story quite a lot (I have seen a synopsis and very pretty pictures in CDS), but Pratt gave me a pause, I admit.

Well, it was probably just a bit of twisted humour. I don't like it, and I wish it was something else, but I won't be bitching about it.

And the funny thing is, when I read the name just now, it took me a minute to figure out why everyone was up in arms about it. I've known people with that last name, so that's all I saw when I read it. Plus, it seemed like a very British-type to use.

Yeah, it didn't fly off the page to me either because, like you, I've known people named Pratt and, heck, grew up near a town named Prattville (which now causes me to giggle).

I really don't think that PAD would have meant it in a mean sort of way. It was probably just to go with poor William's sad, sap death, but not in an smacking him down kind of way.

Thanks! And me likie!!

(And I don't really buy the criticism of Spike's motives. Spike isn't going to admit to a stranger that he's one of the good guys. He just... doesn't do that sort of thing. He just actually does the right thing, so I found it quite in keeping with the Spikey in my head.

Thanks for the link.

I gather that it isn't really out yet (damn) and that she had an advance copy. But, I also liked it and am ready to order... just as soon as I can figure out WHERE.

If there are advance copies out, it's probably being released on Wednesday.

Let me get this straight:

1) In the comic, William is finally given a last name
2) That last name is "Pratt"
3) People are wanking over THIS, TOO?!

Wow. :)

Heh. Yeah. They are.

Actually having just followed the link, I like the story. :)

I can understand a little mental eyeroll at the name, and even annoyance, but... well, I was heavily into Trek fandom, then Jossverse, then Potter. I should not be surprised at overly dramatic reactions by now, I really shouldn't.

*wipes forehead* Whew! As a fan of both SV and JM I'm glad that the wank has a new target for the moment.

Heh. There's always a new target. Just wait five minutes (okay, so maybe two weeks but you get my meaning. :)
