I made a comment somewhere about that very issue. I find I'm reading much more fanfic than professionally published fiction because I find too much of the published stuff to be far too formulaic. And just because what I write will never be good enough to publish, doesn't mean I should give up my hobby and only worship at the alter of published authors.
