I feel so out of touch. I haven't been on the 'net in a week. I feel like I've been buried under a... well, to be frank, under a bathroom.

Last week I took the entire week off (since I haven't used any of my vacation time this year -- or last -- I was facing losing vacation time with the New Years as I have more hours than can be rolled-over.). Anyway, with no plans for an actual vacation, I took the week off and worked on a home improvement project on my (as if it wasn't already obvious) bathroom.

The thing about do-it-yourself projects, is that 'yourself' becomes very, very tired. My mom helped (my dad helps as much as health permits), but the 'small job' stretched the entire week and still isn't finished. It will probably take another week or so to finish. Don't think it's some huge construction project. It's all aesthetics -- paint, molding, drawer pulls, faucets -- but it has managed to become twice as expensive and four times as time consuming as I would have anticipated. Still, I must say, it's beginning to look quite good. I'll post before and after shots when I'm done.

Anyway, I worked my butt off on home projects and was too tired to net surf last week.

In other news, finally got around to watching last week's Heroes tonight, just before tonight's Heroes aired, and I'm still enjoying the show. I missed Hiro in last week's episode, but I found myself liking Claire even more. Anyway, the show continues to be an enjoyable ride.

Tonight's S60 was still swimming in Aaron Sorkin's personal issues (I know, what a shock).

And I spent the afternoon listening to Paul Finebaum on the radio -- and I cannot stand Paul Finebaum. But, still, curiousity demaded that I listen. The UofA football coach was (finally) fired this morning, so -- wanting to keep up with the news, I listened to Finebaum. Coach Shula's people are really working on people feeling sorry for him since he's been fired (though I agree with the letter to the editor that I read this weekend, it's hard to feel too sorry for someone with a $4 million dollar severance package.) I also have to admit that I'm not a fan of Shula. He's apparently a nice guy. He's well spoken, and fairly good-looking... but he's anything but inspiring. As I watched this season, I came to the conclusion that he will never, ever develop beyond being merely mediocre (and I'm being relatively kind in anticipating medocrity). His play-calling is so uninspired that my mother, myself, and my ten year old neice sat in the stands the last half of the season and could call what play was coming next... and if you think I'm teasing, I'm not. The real joke was that the coaching was just that predictable. It was the same game plan for each and every game, regardless of opponent. There were never any readjustments at half-time. And, seriously, he relied on the same handful of plays so consistently that (and, again, I'm not exaggerating or kidding) my sixty+ year old mother, myself, and my ten-year-old neice had running sarcastic comments during the games about what the next play would be. That's not good. That's seriously not good. So, I can't exactly cry crocodile tears that Shula was fired. I think he earned his firing. Still, is anything better in the offing? Who knows. Can we hire a good coach? Dunno. Let's hope. Spurrier and Saben have both denied that either wants the job... but Finebaum seemed particularly skeptical of Spurrier's denial. Still, can we lure a first class coach? Dunno. We may have to settle for someone second tier. (And, good lord, did I just almost say something nice about Steve Spurrier?! Good grief, most SEC fans have spent the decade hating the man. Amazing how now there are fans going "well, maybe I could learn not to hate him." ) Anyway, things will shake out however they shake out (and the al.com boards where they are currently having coaching flame wars are a thing of flaming, trolling, wanky beauty. We're talking Fandom_wank weirdness).

Anyway, hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
