I Present to You a FREE WOMAN! Hee!
Aug. 13th, 2004 08:12 pmI took the job!
I turned in my resignation at five today. My primary boss was out of town, but secondary took it and was very nice (though primary will be less so, I'm sure.) Secondary understands that primary has a "thang" about people staying after they've given their notice so he agreed to my leaving today saying he'll tell Mack this weekend, to call him on Monday about whether I should come in and speak personally to Mack, that Mack might want to speak with me (I bet not, but perhaps). Seconday wished me well. Said that not to keep in touch, he might want me to come work for him in years to come (he believes he's taking over the office when Mack retires. I don't think Mack's gonna retire until he's dragged out). And he'd love to have me back then. And he agreed that I was probably right that this was the best route I could take for my career (as he's aware that advancement is difficult in our firm). He'd give me a reference if I needed one, though obviously I didn't.
I packed up. Peter immediately claimed the chair I had claimed from Dougie. :)
And (as Peter and Kevin were the only ones left at the office by that point) they walked out with me carrying my stuff and Kevin and I hung around talking for an hour.
I still need to call Howard and Jenn because both were out of the office yesterday and today so I haven't told them. . .and both will be offended if I don't tell them. I tried calling Howard this morning. Howard is a buddy of mine so I'll definitely keep in contact with him. Jenn is a bit more problematic, though I'm sure she's far more tolerable when someone doesn't have to work with her.
I'm also supposed to call my new job Monday (since he was going to be out of town the last half of today). He understood that even if I did leave my job today, that I wanted next week off. He suggested that I come by one day next week to speak with the computer guy about what kind of system I would want and with the accountant to get those things straightened out.
So... it's all good.
And I'm more or less totally FREE for the next week to just be a bum! :D
