Today was my day off so I could slee late this morning (which is always good.)
My sister is out of town (in Hawaii. I'm jealous) so I have my 10 year old neice, Alexis, for the weekend. She's a sweetie. She got back from a fieldtrip to Chattanooga but left her stuffed rabbit. My mom called to check on Lex and has since tried calling the hotel, but we didn't realize until a few minutes ago that the bunny was missing, so the hotel where she stayed in Chattanooga has closed the front desk and isn't answering the phone.
I have Lexie's dog (a live one)here, so hopefully live puppy will make up for lost stuffed bunny. (Yes, I'm neice and puppy sitting... which my cat isn't entirely sure about. The cat has spent most of the evening hiding under my bed though she does seem to appear every so often to land in my lap and soak up reassurance.)
And it's like we went from the dead of summer to it suddenly seeming almost winter-like (for us) as it has dropped into the 60s. I may not even need to run the air conditioning tonight. The change of weather isn't helping my ankle though. It has been rather achey today.
Finally, Mom and Dad have sold their house (at least they've signed the contract to sell their house. They're supposed to have it inspected tomorrow). And by sell, I mean sell EVERYTHING -- furnishings, appliances, TVs, the whole works. She's had her house up for sale several months and a retired woman who has been displaced by Katrina ( from New Orleans) looked at Mom's house and wanted to buy everything.
Mom is of course happy... and completely freaked out... because that's my mom. (Dad is always "Whatever your mother wants." I think my Dad and I have the 'B' personalities in the family so that mom can be the excitable 'A'). She's been looking at a new house near the home they once had here in B'ham (the one she went into a panic attack and sold 2 years ago to move back to Monroeville -- which is the middle of freaking NOWHERE -- only to discover that the Monroeville she was trying to find hasn't really existed in quite some time. It's always a shock to go there and realize it's not like you remember). Anyway, she's trying to move back to almost the exact same place she left just 2 years ago.
Although. because she continues to freak out about the price of that house, and she's also looking at another house that is another 10 miles out of town. Dad keeps nudging her to take the house closer to town because he knows her... just as I know her. She really won't like living way out near Mnt. Laurel. The problem is the house near Mt. Laurel has more of detailing Mom likes. The one closer to town is nice (hey, MINE isn't that nice) but there are little details that my high maintenance mom is criticizing.
Still, if all goes well, they'll buy the house closer to town (and then mom will go into a depressive funk... because that's my mom. :)
Anyway, have wiped my neice's tears (poor stuffed bunny left in Chattanooga) and curled her up with her puppy. Hopefully all will go well.
(Oh and I also went to the stylist and had 3+ inches of hair cut off today. But no one ever notices when I have my hair cut. )
