So everyone seems to be departing for Writercon and I'm still sitting at work. ::sigh::
By my calculations, if I work until 6:30pm tonight (earliest quitting time I've had in three weeks), I should be okay with making up my work time. We have several hellaciously huge projects that need to go out, so it was requested that all salaried employees do overtime. The problem is that I had already scheduled time off for Writercon, so I'm having to make up both the entire Friday off and still have overtime in excess of that which means I'm having to work an extra 14 hours+/- in this pay period. ::sigh:: I'm tired, stressed, and sleep-deprived. And tomorrow I intend to wake up early for the 2hr drive to Atlanta. When I arrive everyone will clearly find me at my tip-top best. (Uh-huh... and I also have swampland to sell. Want any?)
Also... I tend to be shy and that tends to come off as aloof (or, conversely, hyper. Apparently I don't have a great deal of middle ground), so don't take the aloofness seriously. It just means I cannot think of a damn thing to say, and that I'm terrible about approaching people I don't know well.
I'm sort of at odds because I've never, ever been to a fan con and I haven't met any of my on-line friends list. I'm feeling a bit at sea.
Finally, I haven't packed yet. And, though I haven't bought a cocktail party ticket, I did sorta-kinda plan to go if tickets happen to still be available. Who the hell knows what I will wear, though. I have no actual cocktail dresses in my closet. I'll have to hunt around for a skirt and something to pair with it.
Checklist:
* Clean out car so that it is habitable
* Pack (which means finding an actual suitcase somewhere. I really only have that old North Face backpack.)
-shorts
-jeans
-shirts
-unearth a skirt and something to go with it
-sandals and flipflops
-toiletries
* Go to ATM for cash
* Go to Staples for CDr or DVDr to burn the vids that I've compiled for writercon
