shipperx: (24: martha for pres)

Never thought I'd say this (primarily because on America's Next Top Model she's such a raving loon), but Tyra Banks, you go girl!

From TVGuide:
Ten years ago, Tyra Banks became the first African-American woman to grace the cover of a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. Now, 20 pounds heavier, Tyra's returned to the Bahamas to re-create the photo, which will be revealed on the Feb. 19 episode of her talk show. "I want to empower women to not stress about what they see on the scale," says Banks. "I've never been ashamed of my weight. I am 161 pounds, and I say it loud and proud." And we say, "You go, girl!"

Honestly, I'd far rather see her curves than the anorexic lollipop heads populating Hollywood these days.

Ooh!  Very good rebuttal to an e-mail in Matt Roush's TV Guide Online Column:

Quote:
In my world of TV appreciation, which has to be flexible enough to include everything from guilty pleasures to reality shows, there are two types of top-tier TV. First and foremost, there are the great entertainments, hours of sheer pleasure and excitement, a category to which 24 and Grey’s Anatomy surely belong. (House, on the other hand, I find to be a merely good show built around a great character.)

Then there’s the sort of TV that transcends TV, the occasional series that jolts us into a higher state of awe as we are introduced to characters and settings that seem so real, living lives that are so openly and honestly portrayed, that you can’t shake them from week to week. And regardless how long the show is allowed to survive, you know it’s something you’ll never forget.

Friday Night Lights is that sort of show. Right up there with the best of HBO...

And I didn't do my weeks "squee!" post for FNL because I quite simply didn't have time.  Suffice to say that (yet again) I thought they did an outstanding job.   The issue of racism was handled quite well.  A few small quibbles, but overall I thought they did a great job of keeping it realistic and not setting up strawmen which are easily knocked down.  They handled it quite honestly.  Also, the Coach's bonding with his daughter was a thing of beauty.  The scene with the Coach and his wife Tami once again shows them as the best written married couple on TV.  Landry was hilarious.  Matt and Julie's estrangement is totally realistic and... totally cute.  And overall, it was another excellent episode (See, I just squeed a few days late is all).
