shipperx: (Alabama _ Big Al)

Two days late, but it bears repeating -- 36-0 and... UNDEFEATED!!!

Seven freaking years! This was a long time coming.

AL.Com:
Unless you have ties to this state, it's difficult to understand exactly what win No. 12 meant for the University of Alabama. From a national perspective, this was merely a final, expected step toward a much-anticipated showdown with Florida for a spot in the BCS title game. And as important as next weekend's date at the Georgia Dome will be to the Crimson Tide's season, to those closest to this program, it can't mean any more than Saturday's thorough rout of Auburn...From this point on, Nick Saban's team is playing with house money. Fans would, of course, delight in an SEC title and a spot in the BCS national game, but that really would be gravy to a magical season that no one -- including those closest to this program -- realistically expected. The Huntsville Times:
Glen Coffee looked like he had tumbled backward into a birthday cake. Having been previously tackled atop the circular logo at midfield, the name and number on his back were obscured with crimson and white paint. It had to be confusing for Auburn defenders. They weren't exactly positive who it was running down their sideline toward the horizon, running away with the game, running away to history, running away to bury "The Streak" six feet - not six fingers - deep...the annual Alabama-Auburn game was just like Christmas morning. An endless and obscene amount of anticipation and build-up. Tear through the gifts. Then ... OK, that's done. What next? Merely the SEC Championship game against Florida next Saturday afternoon in Atlanta...

(By way of explanation, Tubberville -- Auburn's coach -- has had a habit of holding up an additional finger every year that Auburn beat us. We had "fear the thumb" the year "The Streak" went from 4 to 5. Then "The second hand" as it went from 5 to 6. And this year would have been 7. But "The Streak" is dead! 36 to NOTHING blowout DEAD. Largest margin of victory since 1962!)

The Chatanooga Times:
Auburn’s streak over Alabama is over. The number seven now represents the number of Tiger losses for the year, not the wins in a row against their in-state rivals. Alabama is No. 1 and undefeated, and the players will certainly hear a lot about Florida this week. But Saturday was a time to celebrate three improbable months, and especially one special day against Auburn.

“That was the biggest thing that we had as a goal this year,” [graduating senior Rashad] Johnson said. “It wasn’t being ranked No. 1 or being undefeated. It was more like, beat Auburn. End the streak. I think I speak for everyone when I say that was our biggest goal this year — to make sure we won this game. To come in 11-0 just made it bigger for us.”

We had a perfect regular season! Undefeated! At the beginning of the season we weren't even in the top 25 and for the last regular season game? No. 1! Who knew?! Next up is the Southeastern Conference Championship Game, but win or lose we're in gravy territory now! And... and if we were to beat Florida? We'd head to the BCS National Championship Game. Of course, Florida is daunting. They're damn good. (We may be rated No. 1 in the nation, but we're listed as two touchdown underdogs against Florida... Ah the craziness of the BCS. I'm sure Texas understands.) But woohoo! In August had anyone said that we'd go undefeated for the regular season, we would have said they were crazy. But here we stand -- 12 - 0 Roll Tide!
