- Brr! Frigid Monday (which I know is laughable to say to all of those North of us. Looking at the national weather report makes me feel like a wimp for complaning about the low 20s with a low tonight in the teens.  By comparison... holy bejeebus, Chicago is expecting -40 in the next few days. Dammmmmnnnnnnnnn.)

- If anyone missed it, hilarious monkey YouTube clip

- Weighed this morning, and I've gained 6 lbs since Thankgiving. On the one hand, not that bad (all things considered). On the other, it'll take a month to lose that. (And even at my lowest I was still 15 lbs from my goal.) Oh well. I just remind myself it's a lifestyle change not a 'diet'.

- Cooked the pot roast recipe I posted yesterday. I didn't have any red wine open so I used balsamic vinegar and some leftover Moscato (white). Still worked and was dark and lovely. The celery root worked great too. Very mild with a slight hint of celery flavor with the texture of roasted potatoes (only with more fiber and fewer carbs.) I think I'll make an effort to learn more about uses for celery root. It was quite good. Only complaint was that the beef was more tough that I would've liked. When I make it again, I'll seek a more marbled cut and will lower the temperature even if it means cooking longer. The FLAVOR however was quite good.

- So, Bama sucked (SUCKED!) in the Sugar Bowl. *sigh* And Auburn plays for the National Championship tonight. So for my alma mater, a cheer of War Eagle with fingers crossed (crossed for luck, not crossed out of disingenuinous, though crossing over from Roll Tide to War Eagle is pretty much considered to be treasonous in this state, but then I've been treasonous in this regard for a very long time. I am my own "house divided"

- Watched the U.S. season premiere of Downton Abbey (which I know has very long since aired in the U.K.). At this point, can I just confess that I flat-out root against Lord Grantham and am NOT a fan of Lady Mary? I know she is considered to be some sort of 'fascinating' character with her icy aristocratic mien, but honestly... she's really just a stuck-up, privileged, totally self-involved woman. I can watch her (not a criticism of the actress) and feel sorry for her (much the way I do for real life Lea Michelle who I'm also no fan of but who does deserve compassion for her circumstances) but I just don't LIKE Lady Mary very much. In seeming minority, I find Edith to be a far more sympathetic character. Edith is certainly flawed, but there feels like more of a person under there. At least to me. Basically, my rooting interests in the show (in no particular order) are the Dowager, Mrs. Hughes (Housekeeper), Tom Branson, Edith, Isobel Crawley, and Mrs. Patmore (cook) {I still like Anna, but her storylines are always so very dire.  It's exhausting.}

They also appear to be working very hard at making Cousin Rose (Downton's Cousin Oliver) Sybil 2.0, aren't they? Rose isn't offensive or anything, but... eh.

All in all... hey, nothing else was on TV. (Well, Revenge was, but Revenge is a bit on fumes these days and it'll be OnDemand whenever I'm bored enough to catch up).

- Watched the TNT ('regular' cable) airing of Inglorious Basterds. Had actually never watched the movie before. Various points of interest. The 'regular cable' version was less violent than the cable version of 'Django Unchained', but it's a Tarantino flick, so still very violent. I think I prefer Django Unchained, but I also think I'll never be a Tarantino fan (just not my style). Still, enjoyed the movie more than I thought I would. It had its good points. (I just have a thing against 'beautifying' violence.)
