Sometimes I want an eye rolling icon.

This reminds me of that kerfuffle a few months ago  where someone was bitching about the (gasp)  existence of Spuffy fics prior to some arbitrary date because it was 'soulless' or 'icky' and thus not 'believable' by someone's personal standard.  The link is another "Oh no!  Someone's writing Spuffy!" alarm, which... no kidding! There are people who write Spuffy.   This *cough*  isn't exactly new.

If we start bitching about how people interpret the text to come up with their fanfic ideas, we're going to be accusing 99.9% of fanfic as being bad_fic (fandom's badfic quotient is high, but not quite that high).  The entire existence of fanfic  is based on subjective interpretation, frequently on extrapolation, and usually 'what if' scenarios. (By the rationale listed in the link, I'd say that Wincestor's should hide because somehow I doubt that a network television show is going to canonically show two brothers in an incestuous relationship.  And, you know, anyone who writes Draco/Harry, or Harry/Snape, or Snape/Anyone... well that goes against canon!  Team Jacob?  You're screwed.  Bill/Sookie or Eric/Sookie... I don't know what to say.  One or the other of you is writing your fanfic wrong.  We just don't know which one because you've got deuling canons!  Oh well, I guess you're both wrong, because just in case you didn't know...

Fanfic ships can't diverge from canon!

Badfic quotes is more amusing when it's sporking bad writing.  I love snippets of eggplant purple prose!  I'm less happy with dissing shipping preferences or demanding strict adherence to canon.  (Fanfic must be canonical now?)

Oh no!  Someone on the internet is writing a ship I don't like!  [/snark]
