LJ - Question of the Day

What were your favorite books growing up? How did those influence your choice of a favorite genre when you got older?
Are we talking childhood books? In my very young "someone reads to you" days, I was a fan of Rudyard Kipling's "Just So Stories" I can still pretty much quote "The Cat Who Walks Alone" and "The Elephant's Child" Mostly from memory.
Older, as in when I began reading for fun, I was a huge fan of "The Black Stallion" and Trixie Belden Mysteries (she was basically Nancy Drew except younger, less affluent, and more of a tomboy. She had a gang of friends -- her two older brothers, the angsty-teen guy across the street that she crushed on who was an orphan --eventually adopted by as a teen by her best friend's uber-rich parents), and a black jacketed (not really) "bad boy" nephew of the rich neighbors' gardener. And they all went around Scooby-gang-like solving mysteries.
Older Teen I was more into the Lois Duncan "scary" books.
