Reactions to last night's week's Hex (ah the beauty of fauxVo, where TV waits until you get around to it.)

Anyway, reaction: I was not expecting that.

They killed Cassie. Not that I'm bothered or upset or anything, it's just unusual to kill off your main protagonist.

Someone somewhere said that the thing about Hex is that it feels like it should be more interesting than it is. I thought that summed it up perfectly. I mean, they do some daring things. They had their protagonist try to have an abortion, they've now killed her off, etc. Still, my reaction to Cassie's death was a shrug and "Oh well, I liked Thelma better anyway."

The other thing is that I'm sure I'm supposed to feel Cassie's overwhelming attraction to Azazeal and I quite simply don't. Yeah, he's hot. But I've never seen any kind of real relationship with him other than sex and as such, I always shrugged the relationship off. Which, I suppose, is fine since that story appears to be over (what with Cassie dead and all).

Far and away the best thing about the show is Thelma who is plucky and whose dilemma really does have some interest to it in that if she manages to destroy Malachi she ends up negating her own existence. That's an interesting character dilemma.

Hex would make a fairly good BtVS fanfic crossover, though. I could see a Willow/Thelma pairing. God knows there are a million things more compelling in Thelma than there ever was in Kennedy.

Thelma rocks.

And the actress that plays her is doing just as good a job in Sinchronicity.

The right to choose isn't any where near the same level of contraversial an issue on this side of the Pond.

Well, it wasn't just an abortion, it was a late term abortion. If the baby could survive out of utero, it was a pretty late term abortion and that's a sticky area (albeit, I realize the pregnancy was on hyperspeed).

I never understood the attraction the Cassie/Azazeal relationship either. It left me cold.

I gave a small cheer when Cassie died.

Cassie dying may be an improvement here. I think the very dead performance by the actress in the part is one of the big things that's been keeping me from getting involved in this series.

Cassie has been a pretty limp heroine. She hasn't actually done anything except give in to temptation.

I've been watching this, but in a rather disinterested way. Replacing Cassie with a character who actually does things might make the show more enjoyable.

Oh, so much word! I was going to post about last week's "Hex," but I've just been too busy and couldn't be bothered. My reaction was (I actually said this out loud), "Huh, well, that was unexpected!"

It is very surprising that they killed off their main character, but like you, I'm not actually bothered about it. Whoever said that the show should be more interesting than it is was right on the money. I agree, Thelma is the best thing about it. I'll keep watching, but it's kind of perfunctory on my behalf. It is irksome how they keep dropping characters like :poof: -- the guy Cassie first had the crush on, his friend-with-benefits classmate, and Thelma's ghost pal. (OK, obviously I didn't care too much, because I can't remember any of their names.)

As for the Cassie/Azazeal attraction, I never felt it a bit, either. Of course, I don't find Azazeal sexy at all, just evil and creepy. But I never felt that there was any depth to that "relationship" at all. It was all tell and no real show.
