Gakked from all over, but definitely worth repeating.

JAMES TO CO-STAR IN FEATURE ADAPTATION OF “P.S. I LOVE YOU”

JAMES MARSTERS has been set as a co-lead in the feature film “P.S. I Love You” for Alcon Entertainment. The film stars Hillary Swank, Kathy Bates, Gerald Butler, Lisa Kudrow and Gina Gershon. James will portray the role of ‘John’, the best friend and partner of Gerald Butler’s character.

The film is based on the novel by Cecilia Ahern and will be directed by Richard LaGravenese. The picture centers on a widow whose life is rejuvenated when letters left by her husband send her on a series of adventures. Production will begin mid-October. The film will be distributed by Warner Bros.

Cecelia Ahern's debut novel, PS, I Love You, follows the engaging, witty, and occasionally sappy reawakening of Holly, a young Irish widow who must put her life back together after she loses her husband Gerry to a brain tumor. Ahern, the twentysomething daughter of Ireland's prime minister, has discovered a clever and original twist to the Moving On After Death concept made famous by novelists and screenwriters alike--Gerry has left Holly a series of letters designed to help her face the year ahead and carry on with her life. As the novel takes readers through the seasons (and through Gerry's monthly directives), we watch as Holly finds a new job, takes a holiday to Spain with her girlfriends, and sorts through her beloved husband's belongings. Accompanying Holly throughout the healing process is a cast of friends and family members who add as much to the novel's success as Holly's own tale of survival. In fact, it is these supporting character's mini-dramas that make PS, I Love You more than just another superficial tearjerker with the obligatory episode at a karaoke bar. Ahern shows real talent for capturing the essence of an interaction between friends and foes alike; even if Holly's circle of friends does resemble the gang from Bridget Jones a bit too neatly to ignore (her best friend is even called Sharon).

I started squeeing the moment I saw the subject line in my inbox!! Though I do suspect that whoever wrote up the announcement meant to say GeraRd Butler (and not GeraLd Butler).

In one place in the announcement they say Gerard and in the other he is Gerald. I'm thinking typo.

And, yes, squee!

Shiny news on a rainy day!

Anyone know enough about the story to have a clue about his role? I was thinking co-lead sounded perhaps a bit misleading, given the other people involved.

I wonder when they go into production.

Tx_voodoo has the sides up for the part. He appears to be Swank's husband's best friend who -- in the scene in the sides -- makes clear to Swank that he's grieving deeply as well. His wife, Sharon (your guess as to whether that's Lisa Kudrow or Gina Gurshon. I don't think that's been clarified) is pregnant with their first child, and he's sad that his best friend won't be there to see the birth. It sounds like he's part of her set of friends. How much that plays into the story overall, dunno.

I may download the book on my audible.com account as it has an audiobook and I would have a discount. But... it also sounds like sort of a depressing book, so maybe not.

Anyway, sounds like it's a decent part in a movie which will get wide distribution so, yay! Oh an the writer and/or director (I forget which) was involved with the movie "The Ref" and I rather like that movie, so here's hoping that it's a pretty good movie.

Poking around the web, seems that filming will start in October. So, doesn't sound like it's going to fall through, and we should see it late next year, early 2008.
