shipperx: (Buffy says Duh)
[personal profile] shipperx

Okay, so there's a whole interview here.  That said, this is the only part that I give a damn about:

TVGuide.com: Is Anya still dead?
Whedon: Anya, still dead. That doesn't mean she won't show up, and it doesn't mean she will. Dead in the Buffyverse is a very singular concept.

TVGuide.com: And Spike? Everyone wants Spike.
Whedon:
I do have plans for Spike, but the
Angel franchise to which Spike defected is in fact owned by another comic-book company, so all that has to be worked out.... And is indeed being worked out.

TVGuide.com: Does that mean there will or won't be Angel crossovers?
Whedon:
There will be a certain amount. The Angel characters were in the Buffyverse and could appear. I'm not going to feature them heavily because that other company is working on them, and I just don't want to be a schmo to them.

TVGuide.com: Isn't that a little weird?
Whedon:
It's a little weird. It's not an ideal situation, but I would not heavily use those characters. There's a reason you have Angel do his own show, because you can only play out the variations of "What if Romeo and Juliet lived?" for so long. He's in her heart, but he will be used sparingly.

Joss to English translation: Yeah, I have to bring in the vampires because I want people to buy the comics, but I laugh in your general direction if you think that anything definitive will happen.   Give up on the ships!  ...Besides, I never gave much of a damn about the vamps anyway.

(Or at least it's something to that effect.  Still, HEE! that the interview asked about Spike and the WAY the interviewer asked about Spike.)

Hee! Take that Whedon!

I admit... I snorted Diet Sprite when I first read that.

I can't even care about the Angel/Spike thing when I'm so horrified by the illustrations. That is so not my Buffy. I can't read 30 pages where it lookes like Riley dressed her.

What you aren't enthusiastic over the plot of "Potentials in SPAAAAAAAAAAAAACE!!!!"?

Honestly, I wouldn't mind a story centering on Buffy, Potentials, and saving the world. But since this sounds like Dawn's "growing pains" and the Scoobs becoming BFF again? Pass.

And yeah, that should probably scare Joss since I'm probably one of the most easily pleased fangirls around.

Yeah, whoever is spearheading this media campaign trying to make this comic appeal to BtVS fans isn't doing a bang-up job. So far most of the publicity has centered on what people like least.

I think the Core Four fans will be happy, but that's really about it. And I mean, I'm not a Core Four hater, but I do like that they were growing up, and yes, growing apart, and the whole notion of trying to stick them back together again, as if they're still high school kids, with nothing more important than their best friends, all while ignoring Buffy's love life...it's kind of lame and childish to me.

I mean, I get that Joss is in a tricky spot since he both can't really use Angel and Spike and can't really even say if they're alive, but still, the whole series sounds just plain boring.

And I mentioned Buffy's wardrobe right? Cause I really don't think the wrongness of that can be overstated.

Since there are AtS comics post-NFA, I pretty much assume that they are alive, but I suppose Buffy et al wouldn't know.

I just think Joss doesn't want to resolve the ship issues and at this point, to be honest, I don't want him to either.

As for Buffy in Space... those outfits look more appropriate on Aeryn Sun.

What about this interviewer's question around a week ago? LMAO:

Will we be seeing the two great vampire loves of Buffy's life, Angel and Spike?

JOSS: Yes — but. The characters from the show Angel are owned by another company who picked up the comic book publishing rights. That doesn't mean I can't use them, it just means I'm sparing in my use of them because I don't want to interfere with another company, who are working hard on that property. But Angel and Spike are characters that I would use sparingly, anyway. They are important to Buffy, but too much is too much.''

Which is hilarious because instead of using the vamps fan loves... he focuses on Potentials and Dawn instead! Bwha!

Although I do think the comic will do well initially, he really is focusing on the wrong things if it keeps on being about potentials and Dawn. Did he not see that article about OMWF being the next ROCKY HORROR?

Whenever Dawn came on screen, everyone yells "SHUT UP, DAWN". When Spike comes on screen, there is loud cheers, screams and applause.

Joss is stubborn about his babies... hence the retconning of Buffy/Immortal. He wants what he wants as he wants it, but he hates it when people hate his babies. That's how we ended up with Kennedy rammed down our throats.

Yes, he just said that Gunn was hard to love, but he was one of his favorites. I think he feels for the neglected.

(I loved Gunn, though)

I have left BtVS almost completely behind me, but part of me was kicked around once too many times by Marti & Fury. And that part just loves that the TV Guide asks specifically about Spike as a character, and gushes over how much he's wanted; but Angel is mentioned only as the entire show not the character.

I still experience far too much joy at anything that I think irritates Joss or insanely rabid B/Aers. I don't see that going away any time soon.

I am so filled with not caring about this comic book that I can't even articulate the level of my non-caring. The only reason I stuck with Season 7 was because of Spike, I still loathe Dawn and the Potentials/New Slayers, and, yeah, Commando!Buffy makes me want to hurl.

I'm only interested in a comic book that has Spike & Angel together snarking and watching each other's backs and with lots of subtle slashy undertones. And since I'll probably never get that, I'll stick to fanfiction.

Fanfiction is better anyway... good fanfiction actually has character development.

I admit that in spite of what I said about being a bit pissed off that Joss obviously didn't care much about Spike and Angel, seeing him say he has 'plans' for Spike made my blood run cold.

It did amuse me, though, to see him say Angel was 'in Buffy's heart.' I thought Spike was the one who was in her heart whereas Angel was her one true love (using insane Duck logic here- which by this time has probably interpreted what they insisted in Chosen to mean that Buffy loved Spike but wasn't in love with him to mean Buffy&Angel4evah.

The thing that kills me is that there could be interesting things you could do with the Potentials and Dawn, only JW didn't even hint at doing them in S7, so there's no way he's gonna do them in this comic - I mean, throughout that whole season, those characters were played as screaming meemies, useless tagalongs or disposable cannon fodder, not so much the best and the brightest or the next generation. But what, now they get to get to be unironic cartoon superheroes, flying around in skintight bodysuits with rocket packs.... uh, remind me, wasn't that the sort of thing S6 was making fun of the nerds for?

Jeez, Joss, make up your damn mind.

My reading would be "I'm not allowed to use those characters without a whole lot of negotiation, and frankly it's easier to move on and tell another story."

Admittedly, my Joss translations come with a dose of cynacism.
