Whedon Interview in TV Guide
Dec. 7th, 2006 10:10 amOkay, so there's a whole interview here. That said, this is the only part that I give a damn about:
TVGuide.com: Is Anya still dead?
Whedon: Anya, still dead. That doesn't mean she won't show up, and it doesn't mean she will. Dead in the Buffyverse is a very singular concept.
TVGuide.com: And Spike? Everyone wants Spike.
Whedon: I do have plans for Spike, but the Angel franchise to which Spike defected is in fact owned by another comic-book company, so all that has to be worked out.... And is indeed being worked out.
TVGuide.com: Does that mean there will or won't be Angel crossovers?
Whedon: There will be a certain amount. The Angel characters were in the Buffyverse and could appear. I'm not going to feature them heavily because that other company is working on them, and I just don't want to be a schmo to them.
TVGuide.com: Isn't that a little weird?
Whedon: It's a little weird. It's not an ideal situation, but I would not heavily use those characters. There's a reason you have Angel do his own show, because you can only play out the variations of "What if Romeo and Juliet lived?" for so long. He's in her heart, but he will be used sparingly.
Joss to English translation: Yeah, I have to bring in the vampires because I want people to buy the comics, but I laugh in your general direction if you think that anything definitive will happen. Give up on the ships! ...Besides, I never gave much of a damn about the vamps anyway.
(Or at least it's something to that effect. Still, HEE! that the interview asked about Spike and the WAY the interviewer asked about Spike.)

Date: 2006-12-07 04:40 pm (UTC)And yeah, that should probably scare Joss since I'm probably one of the most easily pleased fangirls around.

Date: 2006-12-07 04:57 pm (UTC)I mean, I get that Joss is in a tricky spot since he both can't really use Angel and Spike and can't really even say if they're alive, but still, the whole series sounds just plain boring.
And I mentioned Buffy's wardrobe right? Cause I really don't think the wrongness of that can be overstated.

Date: 2006-12-07 05:12 pm (UTC)I just think Joss doesn't want to resolve the ship issues and at this point, to be honest, I don't want him to either.
As for Buffy in Space... those outfits look more appropriate on Aeryn Sun.

Date: 2006-12-07 04:41 pm (UTC)Will we be seeing the two great vampire loves of Buffy's life, Angel and Spike?
JOSS: Yes — but. The characters from the show Angel are owned by another company who picked up the comic book publishing rights. That doesn't mean I can't use them, it just means I'm sparing in my use of them because I don't want to interfere with another company, who are working hard on that property. But Angel and Spike are characters that I would use sparingly, anyway. They are important to Buffy, but too much is too much.''

Date: 2006-12-07 05:18 pm (UTC)I'm only interested in a comic book that has Spike & Angel together snarking and watching each other's backs and with lots of subtle slashy undertones. And since I'll probably never get that, I'll stick to fanfiction.

Date: 2006-12-07 10:29 pm (UTC)It did amuse me, though, to see him say Angel was 'in Buffy's heart.' I thought Spike was the one who was in her heart whereas Angel was her one true love (using insane Duck logic here- which by this time has probably interpreted what they insisted in Chosen to mean that Buffy loved Spike but wasn't in love with him to mean Buffy&Angel4evah.
