After more than a month of constant insults from ESPN talking heads and the further humiliation by the debacle with Rodriguez, it seems that we have a coach. The Miami Dolphins just announced that Saban took the job. Of course, like most battered Bama fans, I don't know that I can really, really believe it until I see the guy behind a podium with a huge "A" on it saying that this time -- at last-- the deal really and truly is done.

Bama fans can take heart in remembering how Wisconsin got their last basketball coach: the UW was determined to lure Rick Majerius, a Wisconsin native, and dangled a very lucrative offer in front of him. Majerius decided to go back to Utah. UW "settled" for Bo Ryan. A couple of Big 10 championships, an elite eight appearance, and a current #4 ranking later - we're all pretty happy that the first choice didn't happen.

Due to the ripple effect, this hire has FSU fans a little uneasy. Some believe that Saban could lure Jimbo Fisher, who is considered to be our top choice for OC, to Bama with him. We were anticipating some sort of announcement of Jimbo's hire at FSU this week, since LSU plays its bowl game tonight; now no one's sure what's going to happen. Gotta love the coaching carousel. :)

It's $32 million, but, hey, still a freaking awesome salary. (Then again I couldn't weep crocodile tears for Shula's severance package of $4 million. I'd volunteer to be fired for $4 million, wouldn't you?)
