shipperx: (FNL Need to Succeed)

Not my favorite episode. I mean, FNL is quality, so it's not like I'm saying that it sucked, but it's not my favorite ep. If it was, I probably wouldn't be nitpicking, and I have a nitpick that's been bothering me since the first episode.

What is it with the FNL players and Notre Dame? These kids are in Texas, right? So, why exactly is Notre Dame at the top of these kids lists of places to go? I kind of cut the writing some slack with Jason because he's that kind of clean cut kid who you think probably has good grades and Notre Dame has that whole "big name/tradition" thing going for it. Then I think it was later mentioned in conjunction with a possible future for Matt. And in tonight's ep the Coach went out of his way to show Smash a guy who went to Notre Dame... and I'm back to wondering -- wha-huh? Does FNL's Notre Dame recruit heavily in Texas, because the real Notre Dame doesn't. (Glancing at their current recruiting class at rivals, they don't have a single kid from Texas. Not one. And, dude, Texas is a really big state!)

These kids are in Texas, and they're supposed to be hugely into football. Wouldn't it make more logical sense for them to look at schools which have a national championship in the last twenty years and are far closer to their homes? You would think that a kid living in podunk Texas would be interested in the University of Texas, LSU, Oklahoma, or even Arkansas (the first three having had a national championship in the last six years and far closer to these kids [fictional] homes.

It's a nitpick, I know. But it smacks of the writers using what they think to be a "name" rather than what actually fits the context. (That or they listen to ESPN's endless hype of Notre Dame, which annually results in the school getting its ass kicked in a bowl game when they have to play teams who are part of actual conferences).

Okay, okay, enough with the nitpicking. Regular show commentary: I can't believe that Jason proposed to Lyla. Oh Jason, Jason, this is a really bad idea. I really don't care about Tyra's homelife, but I bet her mom is going to end up in an affair with Lyla's father. And, as usual, poor Matt.
