I've actually never thought about it. Since it's a Red Dwarf book, I guess I always translated it in my head to the fact that Lister is the last remaining human, having been in deep storage for a few million years... not that Lister was a careful driver. Actually, Holly was the driver and after a few million years in space she/he had gone rahter insane. Then again, everyone on Red Dwarf was insane. :)

English villages often have signs on the roads that go through them saying "[insert placename] welcomes careful drivers" to remind cars to slow down, I think it's just a piss take of that.

I dunno; to me, anything with "passion" in the title is automatically rendered idiotic.

"Again and Again" and "Sex and the Single Vampire" are running neck and neck with it, though.
