shipperx: (Spike- When do we destroy the world)

For two days straight a local (sports) radio station has had its morning show discussing the horrible homophobic comments by...er... is his name Hardaway?  (I'm afraid my knowledge of professional sports is fairly limited).  Anyway, apparently this morning show's idea of "discussing" homophobia is allowing many, many total and complete idiots to call up saying "I'm not homophobic, but..." and then launch into long, ridiculous rants of homophobia!  Backed up by the jock DJs doing pretty much the same thing!  It was so terrible that yesterday morning I turned the show off.  This morning, it actually got my duff out of bed before hitting the snooze button in order to send an angry e-mail to the radio station. It usually takes something just shy of explosives to get me out of bed early, but OMG(#*$(*@&#($*&@(#*$&(@*#;$((*@&*(amp;*@(#*;@#^!!!!!!; This  is hateful.  This is terrible.  This is INFURIATING and just   [Dawnscreech] Shut up! Shut up! Shut up! [/Dawnscreech]  This kind of ignorance, bigotry, and trailer park theology on rampant display is disgusting (I worded it a bit more articulately to the radio station, though I did include that last sentence.)

I know, it's like a horrid version of "Bless her heart" You know how that works, right? Southerners will insert "Bless his/her heart, but..." in front of any sentence where they're going to insult someone. As if that makes the insult passable.

So goes the "I'm not homophobic, but.." or "I don't hate gay people but..." I know some people are slow to evolve but geez... doing that makes it still (wrongly) passable to be homophobic. Kind of like, "Yeah sure, as long as you apologize or put a disclaimer in ahead of time, go right ahead and insult the GLBT community!"

*Rolls eyes* It's a sad, sad world. I got into an argument with a few people on another blog over this very topic. Of course, the idiots there are like, "Well, if you allow homosexuals to marry, the next thing you know, you'll allow pedophilia to be legal."

OMG. The IGNORANCE!!! THE STUPIDITY!!! THE EMPTY-HEADEDNESS!!!

As a Southerner I'm quite familiar with "bless her heart", but, yeah this "I'm not a..."followed by evidence that you most certainly are tends toward the totally infuriating.

And also, yeah, the arguments against gay marriage quite frequently head into the straw man arguments of "If you allow two consenting adults to marry each other then next you know ". These are also infuriating.

I was shocked to realize that I thought the NBA has handled it very well - they've cancelled all his appearances as speaker at their events and told him that they find that attitude unacceptable, please go away. And then refused to discuss it. Quiet and dignified silence and icy stares.

Your radio station could learn from them. Good work on you for pointing that out.

It was so very infuriating. It's a good thing they didn't remember to give out their phone number. The DJs and the callers were raging idiots.
