Inspired by a discussion elsewhere. The "I'm so old I remember the 80s" poll

[Poll #1006415]

What, no "She's Like the Wind" or "I've Had the Time of my Life" from Dirty Dancing? To me, those are quintessential 80s tunes. :D

Bwha! "She's like the Wind" was pure 80s cheddar. :)

In Peter Gabriel fandom, the people who liked "In Your Eyes" because they heard it in Say Anything were regarded as nouveau fans only!

I wonder if these poll responses are colored by WHAT age range you were during the 80s :D (and I say NOTHING MORE on that!)

There's no such thing as too much 80s cheese. That was my decade, by golly.

Nelson undoubtedly had glorious hair, but I had to go with Duran Duran as my representatives of "Best 80's Hair".

NO VAN HAGAR. JUST NOOOOOOO. :D

I cry foul on Nelson, Pretty Woman, and Ghost. Those are all 90's artifacts. Heee. And I would've added Power of Love from Back to the Future to the song list.

U2's Joshua Tree!

And We Got The Beat from Fast Times At Ridgemont High or Everybody Wants To Rule The Worldfrom Real Genius.

Ah, the 80's...

Hee! Yes, the hair was all Nelson had going for them. There were girls who would have killed for that hair. Not on their boyfriends... on themselves.

No doubt. And I could put some earlier ones in (and seriously thought about it) but my head was mostly at 'hair bands' last night (though I could have come up with even cheesier examples of those).

U2 was/is entirely too respectable for this poll. :)

And mea culpa regarding "Everybody wants to rule the world". Probably also should have brought in "Crying Game" too. :)

Were they 90s? I tend to class all my years in school as being in the 1980s (though truthfully I graduated in 1992, so it is a fudge). It's just that I don't tend to transfer into '90s' in my head until Grunge. :)

I'm going to have to do another poll because I really needed a way to bring in things like 'Yes', Adam Ant, the Violent Femmes, Depeche Mode, Devo, Pet Shop Boys, and Spike's beloved Clash or Sex Pistols. It's just that it was a hair bands and Duran Duran that inspired the poll. It's just that in no way covers all that is to be cherished from the 80s. :)

Hey, I like some of those songs!

I couldn't answer the hair question, though, because I can never remember what any of them look like - they all mush together in one big hairball.

Don't we all love several of these songs? Deep down, don't we?

Well, maybe, but I couldn't turn around without SOME yahoo yammering on about how amazingly awesomely incredibly miraculous U2 and Joshua Tree were... to the point where I never have owned or listened to it.... *g*

I still have one of their tapes.

Could I have spent any more time listening to my classmates play CD's or practice the chords from Nirvana in 1992?

Look at it this way... people probably had a better chance of figuring out the chords than figuring out whatever the hell it was Kurt Cobain was saying.

When he died, they kept saying that he was the voice of a generation. I kept wondering whether that meant that my generation was inarticulate.

Heh. It was one of the few CD's my Bible thumping roomate held onto when, in a fit of... uh... I'm thinking insanity... she chucked all of her "secular" CDs. I got really pissed. She could have chucked some of those "secular" CD's my way. (And Joshua Tree wasn't exactly religious itself, even if they were Irish Catholic.)

Eeeeg.

Perhaps she didn't want to "corrupt" you...
