I'm going to have to do another poll because I really needed a way to bring in things like 'Yes', Adam Ant, the Violent Femmes, Depeche Mode, Devo, Pet Shop Boys, and Spike's beloved Clash or Sex Pistols. It's just that it was a hair bands and Duran Duran that inspired the poll. It's just that in no way covers all that is to be cherished from the 80s. :)
No doubt. And I could put some earlier ones in (and seriously thought about it) but my head was mostly at 'hair bands' last night (though I could have come up with even cheesier examples of those).
I cry foul on Nelson, Pretty Woman, and Ghost. Those are all 90's artifacts. Heee. And I would've added Power of Love from Back to the Future to the song list.
Were they 90s? I tend to class all my years in school as being in the 1980s (though truthfully I graduated in 1992, so it is a fudge). It's just that I don't tend to transfer into '90s' in my head until Grunge. :)
Look at it this way... people probably had a better chance of figuring out the chords than figuring out whatever the hell it was Kurt Cobain was saying.
When he died, they kept saying that he was the voice of a generation. I kept wondering whether that meant that my generation was inarticulate.
Well, maybe, but I couldn't turn around without SOME yahoo yammering on about how amazingly awesomely incredibly miraculous U2 and Joshua Tree were... to the point where I never have owned or listened to it.... *g*
Heh. It was one of the few CD's my Bible thumping roomate held onto when, in a fit of... uh... I'm thinking insanity... she chucked all of her "secular" CDs. I got really pissed. She could have chucked some of those "secular" CD's my way. (And Joshua Tree wasn't exactly religious itself, even if they were Irish Catholic.)
