Back from the beach. The weather was nice (though quite, quite hot), and I got lots of sleep so, all in all, not a bad vacation. Hope everyone had a nice 4th.

On more fannish matters:

* I think being on vacation makes returning to wank seem all the more frustrating. There's apparently been Dr Who wank (and this was even without my going to TWOP where wank is ubiquitous). My reaction to the Fandom_wank wank was mostly that I know the show is flawed, but can't we just enjoy something every now and then without picking it to death? (And I really didn't like how a Fandom_Wank commenter brought in Buffy and Spike. Geez, I know that Spuffy destroyed television as we know it, but can we please not bring Spuffy into random, unrelated wanks just so that someone can bitch about Spike, Season 6 and/or 7, or opinions of people who didn't fall over excusing Buffy's behavior while "in a dark place'? I'm all for discussing BtVS, it's just that dragging BtVS issues into totally unrelated wanks annoys me.)

* In other wankiness, it looks like the AMC board I occasionally frequent has been invaded by new posters that I don't understand. The board is usually devoted to Ryan and Babe hate with the occasional Greenlee and Jonathan hate. That's what people are there for. I don't care for newbies dragging hate of other characters into it. Yeah, I know its hypocritical, but I like my Babe, Ryan, Greenlee, and Jonathan hate pure and unadulterated with hating other characters. Sue me.

* Regarding the Doctor Who finale (the episode not the various wanks)

The Master was awesomely awesome. He ranks up there as a really great villain. I was a tad disappointed that the Doctor didn't have to make actual apologies to Jack and Martha, but I was gratified that he offered to take Jack along as a companion if Jack wanted (and I liked Jack turning him down), and a squeed a little over Martha striking out in independence. I really, really have grown to like Martha. She is a companion who pulls her weight (and then some). She was wonderful as the 'legendary' Martha Jones, and her pediatrician was damn cute. I hope she goes looks him up now that she gave The Doctor the boot. All in all, quibbles aside, the finale made me quite happy and I think ended well. Loved The Doctor weeping over The Master. Loved Jack choosing Torchwood. Loved Martha choosing herself. Works for me!

* Managed to work on my kinkathon story for

kellyhk . Kelly, I am working on it. I'm just slow! I'm pretty sure I have a decent hold on the plot of the story that I want to tell. There are details I need to work out, but I finally have some idea of where I'm going. I'm also trying to understand Lindsey McDonald. I want to do him justice and he plays a significant part in the story, but he isn't a character I've written in the past and I feel that I don't understand him all that well.

The frustrating thing with writing is that the story in my head is always better than the story that I put on paper. I can never capture the scenes in my head. I try, but it's never the same. I know we can never be the writer that we wish we could be. That's relatively universal. But putting aside impossible ambitions, it's discouraging to be incapable of capturing one's own ideas in a satisfactory way.

Still, at this point, I'm simply glad that I finally found a plot.

After all the complaints I've heard about the Who finale, it's encouraging to know that somebody liked it. Yay!

There were some things about it that I thought were silly and OTT, but overall, I liked it. The Master's death scene redeemed much.

Good to hear. I was beginning to wonder if I should even bother with it.

I think people were let down because it followed a string of really excellent episodes, and it was only OK. And the couple of things I thought were silly were REALLY silly. But it wasn't, like, Torchwood bad or anything. Simm and Tennant absolutely knocked it out of the park for that scene.

I wasn't thrilled with GollumDoctor or the "do you believe in fairies" denoument. But The Master rocked to the end, and I squeed when Martha stood up for herself and walked away, so those things totally redeemed it for me.

Oh, I liked it. It's not flawless. I thought they went over the top here and there, but when all is said and done, I liked it. I thought Martha got her moments (and an extremely cute doctor [little 'd']. Jack got a nice (if somewhat debateable) grace note. And The Master got an excellent exit. I could nitpick and point out things I think could have been done differently, but why would I? I enjoyed it enough to forego nitpicking and just enjoy the good parts.

Dragging Spike into unrelated arguments just seems cruel. Leave the poor, dead guy alone would you?

I, too, like my hate pure and unadulterated. *glares at neighbors who insist on inflicting screechy 8 year olds on the neighborhood at 6 o'clock in the morning* Doesn't everyone have a television? How about a good old fashioned back yard?

Hee! Hate is like Krispy Kreme doughnuts, in a way. I don't want it bastardized with chocolate icing or jelly filling. I want it straight and served hot. :)

Have you heard who the new companion will be, it is confirmed.

Yeah, and while I'm not 100% thrilled, I'm not bothered by it either. And I'm rather encouraged that Martha will show up again eventually as well.

You're writing Lindsey, yay! There is not enough Lindsey in the world.

My problem is that I've never written Lindsey before. I don't really know his voice and I was somewhat confused by his motives in Season 5. But, when looking around for a W&H person to use, Lindsey posed a great deal of potential as there were Season 5 issues I wanted resolved (and I always thought his asassination was an ignominous end for the character).

The stories in our heads are always better than what we manage to get on paper. :/ I think it's an occupational hazard.

I know that it's somewhat universal, but I still wish I was better at it.

Nothing particularly exotic. I tend to go to the TWOP AMC thread. I used to go to the Soapcentral.com threads, but back during the run of Rylee the Rylee supporters and the Ryan fanatics got way too sensitive... and I had no patience for either Rylee or RageMonkey Ryan.

Still don't for that matter. I can go on long rants about Jesus Lavery and his brother and how they both skeeve me out.

And with the spoilers for what's coming up, Rylee 2.0 can go crawl in a mine shaft somewhere because they are *deadtome*. Here's hoping that Kendall won't be so darn forgiving this time.

It's where all the TWOPers went after the thread got locked last January, right when Zendall got together for the 1st time. We we rebelled, kinda like the Cylons.

So that where everyone went? (And don't get me on the utter ridiculousness of Sars closing down the AMC thread over... what was it again? TWOP random bitchiness? I never got it.)

I'll have to check out the board (some of the TWOP newbies are annoying the crap out of me.)

We pretty much decamped right after SARS reopened the thread and we could communicate with each other. I believe that it was because we were off topic too much- it was the pre-NYE craziness when Zach and Kendall first got together.

Well, just lemme know when you go over there, I'm a mod and while I can't promise you there won't be craziness, Brandy pretty much keeps the crazy well stamped down.
