All I can say, is that I earnestly hope not.

From Ask Ausiello:
Question: Have you spoken to Darlton about having Kristen Bell on Lost? If you pull this off, I swear (and you have this in writing, with AA witnesses) that I will send you one case of Diet Raspberry Snapple for every episode of Lost that Kristen appears on. Hope you're up for the challenge!— Erin
Ausiello: You better get busy clipping them there Snapple coupons, Erin. And while you're at it, slap on a pair of Depends, 'cause this is the kind of exclusive casting prattle that causes mass piddling: I can tell you for a fact that Kristen's name has been brought up with regard to the new role of Charlotte, the hot twentysomething who is said to be "precocious, loquacious and funny... a very successful academic who also knows how to handle herself in the real world." Yep, sounds like our Kristen! The only question now is whether my in-demand BFF is ready to jump back into another series.

Date: 2007-08-08 07:41 pm (UTC)Hm. On second thought, if this character and Kate get into some sort of bitchslapping and/or catfight, it might be worth seeing -- that is, if Bell plays the role. She can play scary, that I know. The other day I caught one of her Deadwood episodes and it made me remember why I liked her so much. When she wants she can be a very good actress, certainly better than the ultra-weak Lilly, who relies solely on her twinkling eyes and bitchin' ass.

Date: 2007-08-09 03:48 am (UTC)They got rescued.
Kinda. Well, yeah, they did, though no one is sure exactly how it's going to be handled.
Anyway, in the final arc of the season, a female pilot that was part of a search party (or at least claiming to be) crash landed on the island, telling the Lostees that there was a ship off shore. It was assumed that it was part of Penny's search party but... apparently not (as Charlie revealed with his dying breath that she wasn't actually part of Penny's party and is lying.) Anyway, while confronting The Others, they made it to the signal tower and signalled the ship off shore.
Meanwhile the twist of the episode was that throughout the episode, Jack's 'flashback' was of his having a full-on meltdown. He attends the funeral of an unnamed someone. Then he calls someone to meet him. In the final scene we saw that the person he called and who showed up to meet the mentally unstable, drugged out Jack... was Kate.
Duh. Duh. Duhnnn.
It's not a flashback. It's a flashforward. Or a flash present. At any rate it's taking place after they were rescued.
What had looked like a flashback was actually present (I guess. After all most of Lost takes place immediately after the crash so only 60+/- days have passed on the island, while 3 years have actually passed. So it's easy enough to have the flashforwards be 2007 and the island be in the same time period it has always been in).
Anyway, Jack's 'flashes' in the finale were all after the rescue. It ended with his drugged out, nervous breakdown self insisting to a "not having any of it" and "I have to get back to him" (ambiguous him) Kate, that they have to go back to the island. {Jack also asked her why she didn't attend the funeral of a different, unidentified "him" and she snarled "why would I?" so it's unclear who was in the coffin as well.)
So, actually, to have a new character most probably doesn't require that someone end up on the island as it looks like they're reversing the flashback formula. Now the present is post rescue and the flashbacks are to the island.
At least that's what I've been assuming the new format will be.
The producers have confirmed that they will continue to have story post-island and on the island. And then they also said that being rescued wasn't the end of the story, either. (So maybe Jack's not just whigging out about not being the Big Hero and he's right that they have to go back to the island.)
So, I would assume that "Charlotte" whoever is cast may very well never set foot on the island.

Date: 2007-08-09 02:43 pm (UTC)Locke was trying to join "The Others" and Ben insisted that Locke then murder his father, but Locke was unable to do it, so he captured Sawyer and locked Sawyer in a room with his father until the passive agressive, rather evil dad taunted Sawyer so much about having scammed his parents and making fun of Sawyer's desire for revenge, that Sawyer did in fact kill the bastard. Sawyer has since been having a bit of an existential breakdown and pushing Kate away.
Oh, and did I mention that Ben murdered all the Hansa Corporation people when he was younger? Ben is the only Hansa. All the other "Others" are someone else, (although it was Ben who recruited Julia.) And Jack trusts Julia but absolutely no one else does.
Oh and Ben tried to (did?) murder Locke as well, but 'the island' healed Locke again and...well... Ben doesn't like that as apparently the island is only supposed to talk to him.
{The second half of the season was decidedly better than the first).

Date: 2007-08-10 03:40 am (UTC)ARRRRRRGH! See, that's why I stopped watching Lost after the sonsabitches killed off Shannon the second she and Sayid fell in love. I refused to watch any more episodes for fear that more characters I'd become fond of would fall victim to the Joss Whedon "Snuff 'Em Because I Can" Syndrome.
