From TVGuide:

HBO has sunk its teeth into an order for the True Blood series, Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball's new drama based on Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire novels. Set in a world where vamps can live off Japanese-produced synthetic blood, the TV adaptation stars Brit Stephen Moyer (Quills) as a vampire who falls for a waitress (Anna Paquin) who can read people's minds. Though a premiere plan has yet to be detailed, production starts this fall.

My Comments:

I hope that HBO does a good job of it, though I have to say, I was never particularly enthralled with the books.

I wonder if they intend to end the romance as early as they did in the books or if there will even be a romance. While I like the series quite well I was never particularly enamored by Bill.

Sadly, I see no mention of Eric in the cast at IMDB. I think I will pout.

I think Bill was one of the reasons I was 'meh' on the book series. I just never quite bought the concept.

I enjoy her books as a light reading, they are certainly much better than Hamiltons. My favorite scene was when Eric and Bill were in Sookie's house and they were fighting, and Sookie started thinking of threesome, and then started laughing.
Bill thought became an asshole.
I prefer Quinn her tiger lover.

I haven't read the books, but the combination of HBO, Alan Ball, and vampires has me very interested.

I never really got the appeal of those books either, and I normally love anything to do with vampires..

Meh. I lost interest as soon as it became a series primarily about many supernatural creatures Sookie could get into bed. The author's habit of suddenly introducing major characters and plot points of of nowhere got on my nerves.

I never liked the Blood Ties books, but I love the series. Maybe this will be the same for you.

I liked both the books and Bill, but only until Bill became a major asshole and Sookie got Anita Blake syndrome. Once everybody got the hots for her and she slept with the 3rd or 4th supernatural guy, I completely lost interest. But I'll watch the series, HBO has a good track record IMO.
