From AL.com:

Alabama broke a record Monday with an eighth straight day of 100-plus heat (it hit 105 degrees.) A day earlier, streets steamed at 106. The state had seven-day hot streaks in 1990, 1954 and 1881. Pinson, Ala., hit a record high of 105 (and Tuscaloosa hit 106), according to the weather service.

The average high in August is 92.

"Ninety-two. Hell, the way things have gone this week, 92 is fall weather," Frank Matthews of Millbrook told the Montgomery Advertiser.

(They also need to update.  It's currently 101 102 degrees outside, with most of the afternoon still to come.  We're expecting it to hit 103 (again) today.

Hell, the forecast for the week:   Wed - 104, Thur - 103,  Fri. 101, Sat. 100,  Sunday (a break!) 99.  It doesn't help that we've been in a stage 3 stage 4 drought with water restrictions since June.)

That is just INHUMANE! Yikes! I think I would curl up in a ball in the coolest room of my house and refuse to stir until things got back to a reasonable level!!

It's so bad that it's beginning to outpace what air conditioners are sized for. One co-worker in an old house had his air conditioner's ball bearings seize up this weekend because of overuse. When I come home from work, the air conditioner is actually above the set number because, running as hard as it possibly can, it cannot manage to cool the room all the way down to its set temperature until quite late at night.

And I brought a fan to work today because it got so hot in my (air conditioned!) office yesterday.

Yeah, I've noticed that when it's super-hot here (defined as above 95F for me!) the air-conditioning can't really cope so well and I end up putting on fans and stripping off clothing (at home, anyway!) I do think some of the very old houses - with the deep porches and high ceilings - are probably better designed for coping with heat than our modern glass-box-offices and apartment buildings!

God, that sounds horrible!

I shall never complain about the rain again.

I'd play "My drought's worser than your drought," but it's too hot.

Phoenix was on NPR this morning about your drought and the intense, ongoing, (uneff'n believable)heat. Apparently, after a few weeks people develop these anti-heat-shock cells (or something like that - can't remember exactly what the term was), as a defense against your cells melting...or was it exploding? Either way, it didn't sound good. But they said people who spend most of the time in the air-conditioned indoors may not develop those defensive cells, so they never acquire any resistance to the adverse effects of that kind of heat.

Chicago's been too hot for my taste, but considering the temperatures in other places, you won't hear me complaining.

According to the US drought monitor:
http://drought.unl.edu/dm/monitor.html

I still win... or lose... or something.

(And to top it off, Atlanta is damming up and hording our river water. The Governor has lodged three complaints with the Federal government over it).

I think you still have some extra heat index on us, though.

Ah, but that's just the current drought conditions! We've been in a drought of varying extremity for (I think) over ten years now. (Ironically, it rained last night...)

It's been up to 90 way to often here in Wisconsin. We went a month with only 1/2 inch of rain. Now we've had ten inches in nine days. When it's not flooding, the heat is awful.

And I think we win, because while didn't get to 100 here, I'm willing to bet it didn't get to 15 below in either Phoenix or Birmingham last winter. Or stay below zero for a week.

You only have heat. We have heat and freeze your ass off weather.

You don't want to know that Seattle had a high of 71 degrees today, do you?

Of course, that's why I don't live in the South!
