shipperx: (Don't Shoot We're Pathetic)

Is it bad that I'm envying Texas being hit by a tropical storm?

Rain!  We need it.  We're desperate for it.  Everything is dying and dead, meanwhile Texas is flooding.

God has a really sick sense of humor.

And it's 105 again ::sweat::

I'm jealous of America apparently being really hot right now. Last year we were having the heat wave right along with you, but the summer has sucked in England this year! Actually it's been stormy here today too

And I wouldn't mind, but we get rain all through the year, August is supposed to be the one month where you can enjoy sitting out in the sun!

I think the Northeast is actually relatively cool right now. It's the Southeast and Midwest that are boiling. And it wouldn't be so bad if it wasn't coupled with a severe drought. As it is, though, things are dying right and left so the heat has really become depressing as you watch huge old trees die.

Rain? I think I remember what that is. Water falls from the sky?

That's what I hear. Can't remember seeing any, though.

Tennessee is absolutely parched for rain. My flowers are all dying in spite of my pitiful efforts to keep them watered. I just got back home from a trip to Arizona and New Mexico, which were unbelievably green and lush. And it rained every day we were there. What's stopping it from moving on east?

It's like there's this dead pocket sitting on top of North Alabama, Northwest Georgia, and part of Tennessee.

We've been disallowed to run sprinkler systems since June (but there are rampant violations) so we're to the point that even huge old trees are dying. It has actually reached the point that it's effecting the water table.

Sends you some of that falling outside my windows right now.

Though I'm keeping the temperate climate with respect to temperature.

Yeah, I wouldn't give that part up either.

Yes, but they are excepting 12 inches at once. That just leads to flooding and runoff straight into the ocean. Know because I have been their in VA, not as bad as y'all though.

See, it would take so long to reach the gulf that the rivers and lakes would catch it first. And if the rivers and lakes caught it, maybe the Birmingham Water Board could stop charging 200% surcharges on water!

Except I've about stopped believing in the existence of this mythical thing called 'rain.' Water falling from the sky? Puhlease. Who would believe in that sort of thing? >:)

Not getting any sotrm up here, if it makes you feel any better. Just hot hot hot and dry. And pollution. Red alert again. (even though the words "red alert" make me look for Jean Luc Picard and Captain Kirk)

Makes me want to pull out Red Dwarf quotes:

Rimmer: "Step up to red alert."
Kryten: "Sir, are you absolutely sure? It does mean changing the bulb."

Cat: "Forget red - let's go all the way up to brown alert!"
Kryten: "Sir, there's no such thing as a brown alert."
Cat: "You won't be saying that in a minute!"

Holly: "Purple alert!"
Lister: "What's a purple alert?"
Holly: "Well it's sort of worse than a blue alert but not quite as bad as a red alert. Could be a mauve alert..."

At this point I think we need A Chorus Line of rain dances.

We actually got some rain a couple of nights ago, but it all came in the middle of the night so there were no actual witnesses to it falling (although the ground was still wet in the morning) - there was a lot of thunder and lightning (which the dog and cats didn't care for).

Mostly, though, I don't believe it really exists. It's a legend, this thing called rain...

I totallyl agree. I think people are making up this 'rain' thing so that we'll feel worse about trees and plants dying. Rain? There's no such thing.
