shipperx: (Heroes: HRG)

I really need to break the TWOP addiction because I become so frustrated with the posters in that place. It's  television, people!  It's not rocket science or Shakespeare.  Everything that happens isn't going to fit your every desire.  Not every show is going to blow you away.

... and that's okay.

Oh, and to clarify,  I'm currently complaining about the Heroes forum.  Not everyone there, but some of them.

Some of them, I want to ask what show they thought they were watching.  Heroes has never been the poster child for TV's greatest acting/writing.  What it has been is relatively light escapist fare and, as far as I can see, they are continuing to deliver relatively light escapist fare.  If that's not what you're looking for, that's fine.  No problem. Certainly, there's a ton of room for criticism, and I can totally see not liking the show and not watching at all.  But the carping just for carping sake is a tad annoying... and I realize that's what TWOP is there to do... which is why I said I should teach myself to avoid the place.

Anyway, my take on the season premiere is that they did a fairly good job.  They opened up some new mysteries.  Had a little fun.  Some comedic stuff.  Some "Oh, wonder what that will lead to?" stuff.  Re-established characters and relationships (Love me some Claire/HRG.  Not in that  way).  A couple of "hell yeah" moments.  And at least one "God, I wish they hadn't done that [but I see a way it can be changed, so all is good in my world].

Yes, voice overs are cheesy, but, you know, I put up with the pretentious voice-overs on X-Files for nearly a decade, and I have a perverse affection for the things.   So, while I can understand those introductions annoying the shit out of people, they don't annoy me at all.

For more spoilery reactions
*  HRG breaking the Dunder Mifflin (aka Copy Kingdom) guy's hand. Woohoo!  I loves me some ambiguously gray characters who can kick ass.  Loved the little bit of hypocrisy in his lecturing Claire to keep a low profile, and then him hitting the end of his endurance and not keeping low profile himself.

* Thought it was cute when both HRG and Claire lied at the dinner table about having totally unremarkable days.  Those two can't help themselves.

*  Realizing the answer was Charles Darwin isn't particularly smart.  It was a gimme.

* Mohinder seems to be less of a push-over this year, and that's a good thing.  Oh, and Mohinder and Matt adopting Molly -- a world of aw! There will be some slash out of that, no doubt.  They're just one big happy family.

* Nathan's alter in the mirror reminds me of the Nikki/Jessica stuff (and Nikki was absent from the episode, which is not a bad thing).

* The new Latin American heroes look like they may have potential.

* Mohinder and HRG working together for Mohinder to infiltrate "The Company" was a fun squee.

*  Claire's soon-to-be boyfriend is a stalker and I doubt that  they meant for it to come off that way.  I don't know that I'm enamoured with this character at all.  Didn't mind his Robots vs. Aliens thing, though.

* Could have lived w/o the bitchy cheerleader stereotype, but... oh well.

* You just know that either Hiro will be the legenday Kensei or the swordsmith's daughter will be.  The whole far distant past  plot had a little Xena ambiance to me (and I'm not complaining.  Xena was a fun show and the subplot has some potential for fun.  The swordsmith's daughter is also quite pretty.  Here's a romance I might like.)

* Hugs Ando and his sticking by Sulu...er... Papa Nakamura.  I really didn't want Mr. Sulu to die, but I console myself with the fact that his son travels through time and apparently has altered history in a way that it shouldn't go.  Perhaps, if Hiro fixes the past, Mr. Sulu won't be quite so dead after all.

* Nathan called his mom "evil".  Hee.

* Peter in a box.  And it looks like he's had a visit to The Haitian.   (Yeah, yeah, it's amnesia.  So?  This isn't serious literature.  Heroes has always been loopy like that.  It's a show where I park my mind and just enjoy the ride for an hour.  I don't ask a whole hell of a lot from this show.)

All in all, I think it did what a Season 2 premiere needs to do.  It re-introduced the characters, established their settings and situation, and sparked some mysteries and plots.  I wasn't expecting the world, so I wasn't disappointed by unmatched expectations.  It's still a mindless cotton-candy Monday evening show with twisty plots and squee moments.  That's all I want.  I'm very low maintenance that way.

As for "Chuck", my personal jury is still out.  I wasn't bowled over by the premiere, but it had moments that could point to good potential.  I'll see how it develops before making a decision on this one.

I DVRed "Journeyman" but didn't watch. I'm still running way behind on my [community profile] seasonal_spuffystory and desperately needed to write.
