Conclusions Drawn from Last Night

*  I know way too much 80s music (Knowledge gained from NBC's "Singing Bee")

*  I still prefer "Reaper" to "Chuck".  It seems that opinions on these two (frighteningly similar shows) fall into two camps.  I fall on the side preferring "Reaper."  There's a slight difference in the senses of humor and, for whatever reason, mine is more in line with "Reaper."  Also for reasons I cannot quite pinpoint, there's something about "Reaper" that really reminds me of "Buffy" in the early years.

* Third conclusion:  I have a hell of a long way to go to finish my seasonal_spuffystory.  Also, if I'm going to write in the kitchen, I need more comfortable dining chairs.

I'm exactly the opposite. I'm very close to dropping Reaper after this week's episode. It was exactly like the pilot -- totally boring for the first half, then all the action packed into the second half. I'm not growing any fondness for the main character, and most of the humor just annoys me.

The only thing I'm finding to like about Reaper is Ray Wise.

On the other hand, I loved this week's Chuck. Adam Baldwin is great. Watching him seethe as he's forced to train as a clerk at "Buy More" is hilarious. And by running the "which one, Cody or Sarah, is the double agent?" plot this early on, when we don't really know these people yet, they managed to work in real suspense.

For me, Chuck is a home run, and Reaper is fast sinking out of sight.

It probably depends on yout tolerance for Kevin Smith movies. I think there's a bit more edge to the humor in Reaper, but strictly speaking, Chuck and his friends are more sympathetic characters if you aren't too fond of slackers.

I also think Reaper potentially has more of a problem with each episode following the identical formula. Chuck's premise should provide more variety of stories.

It really is that ineffable thing about humor. I see lots that's endearing about Chuck, but I find Reaper to be funnier. I don't know why.

I think Chuck has been limited by the fact both episodes have all been setup. Chuck's situation is a little more difficult to explain, so we've mainly gotten exposition (and I do get it - how and why Bryce got Chuck kicked out of Stanford will prove to be important). Meanwhile Sam has been out capturing souls.

I think the big test will be if Reaper can stop itself from getting too repetitive and whether Chuck will get interesting missions.

From everything I understand, ep 3 of Chuck is the one that will make it a keeper :D
