Seriously, I was going to watch the recap and then give the series another try, but I kept seeing the words 'Kate' and 'Jack' in the tv guide write-ups, and I just... couldn't.
Oh the series itself is pretty good (what with our knowing that Jack becomes an alcoholic, suicidal quivering wreck after the rescue) It's when they have those recap things and they go on and on about what a obsessive control freak determined hero Jack is that I want to punch something.
Knowing that in the future/present he's a sobbing, self-loathing, drug addict who wants to die makes it easier to take, though.
I did like the time game they played in this episode where it's a flashforward post-Island... but it's still to last seasons full-blown Jack melt down complete with suicide attempt. So really, in the scene with Hurley where Hurley tells Jack that he thinks they were wrong and have to go back, while Jack shakes his head and runs away leaves, we know that Jack's going to change his mind when he becomes a bearded, whimpering drug addict screaming to go back to the island.
I may have to go to the website and see if they put up the recap as well as the new episode. Just out of curiosity, mind you, and not because I really want to see Jack as a drooling wreck of a drug addict. ;-)
Oh, the drooling drug addict bit was in last season's finale. Tonight when he showed up post-island he was a hypocritical prick putting on an act (because we already know he's drinking screwdrivers for breakfast even though he pretends to Hurley that he's got it alllllll figured out and everything is just grrreaaat.
Man, I look forward to seeing how Jack completely deteriorates into the flipped-out mess he was at the end of last season.
Here's a clip of last season's finale. It's not where he tries to kill himself by jumping off a bridge and causing a near-fatal accident instead (after which he 'plays' hero.) And it's not the part where he tries to steal drugs from the hospital and gets caught. But it does have the part with him crying to go back.
