Well.

Damn.

Didn't see THAT coming.

Well, I saw the Knox is eeeevillll coming (Jan, I know you're very upset about that). And I saw that Gunn was in deep, deep crap coming (that was obvious). And, it's become damn predictable in the Whedonvers (laughably predictable by this point) that if there's a happy/shippy moment, it's immediately going to be undercut by tragedy.

But kill Fred? (Well, mostly dead. Who wants to lay odds that she's resurrectable?) That I didn't see coming.

This must be the last ep of Sweeps. It has the bigass cliffhanger written all over it. It's the "Surprise!" thing that Drew Goddard warned about. Not!Fred is now eeeevvviiillllll. (Haven't we seen this story before?)

Wendy noted that everyone is done in by their own weakness. Fred is infected by "science." Gunn by his deal with the devil for the brain fix. Wes by his fixation on Fred.

And speaking which, I think there will be HELL to pay when Wes discovers a few things. When Wes finds out that Gunn (accidentally) facilitated this. Well, I remember Angel strangling Wesley in his ICU bed. Something similar could happen here. And then discovering that Angel COULD have saved Fred but chose not to "for the greater good"? And, say, Wes ever discovers the mindwipe, that Angel sure as hell wasn't thinking "greater good" when it came to someone HE loved. When it was Connor, Angel sold himself (and all his friends) to the proverbial devil so that Connor could get a second life. . . a life that just killed Fred. Yowza.

Still don't understand the "i'm gonna go after Buffy. No, I'm not. Yes, I am. No, I'm not. Yes, I am." thing. Maybe Joss realized that Spike's explanation for not going after Buffy was utter crap ad so he's making a weak stab at correcting it? Er... probably not.

But, hey, we've at least achieved ARC.

Anyway, unless Spike is still "Champion" in this ep (which isn't the impression I'm getting as he isn't even mentioned as a possibility in this summary), Spike is also the only one COMPLETELY innocent in all of this.

Angel got them into it by signing himself over to W&H... and signing his friends on with him, all because he wanted a second life for his son.

Gunn... Gunn is so guilty in this that it's going to be damn difficult for him to live with it.

Wesley...has been slipping down the slippery slope himself. And when he finds out that Angel had a chance to save her but DIDN'T I don't think "for the greater good" is going to fly (which will end up with Gunn and Wes in alliance to take power from Angel... find a new Champion.)

Spike has been the outsider warning that W&H was going to get them into deep shit. Oops. Awful thought. God, hope Spike isn't Wes and Gunn's end run at finding a "Champion" (because Spike really doesn't think with his head where people he cares about are concerned) and who doesn't notice the "greater good" (although neither did Angel when it was HIS son on the line).

I saw someone mention these spoilers are up on the Mythical Boards but I can't find them - would you mind linking me?

I am quite pleased by these spoilers. Angel and Spike are working together (albeit reluctantly) and that's what I am most concerned about (as long as JM doesn't play Spike 'stupid', which worries me now).

As for the rest - female character goes Evil. It's an ME classic. Not.
