shipperx: (Farscape - Why So Difficult)

Must resist urge to do unpopular opinion post.  I seem to be brimming with unpopular opinions this morning and having to remind myself that no good (but lots of kerfuffles) come from unpopular opinion posts.

Oh, come on...it'll be fun! I bet I might share some of them. *g*

Probably the least incendiary of the opinions is that I don't see the big deal in LJ's new policy stating that new members free account option will have ads. That's what Insane Journal has done all along. Big whoop.

See, I agree with that one. :-) They could have communicated it better, perhaps, but the decision itself doesn't bother me.

Well, they're communications skills suck. But I just don't see the point in getting all worked up about it. What makes me even more perplexed is the fact that it's not like this is retroactive. It doesn't really effect those of us who are here already.

Heh, I was going to post a long post about how it didn't bother me and how I had made a choice to pay for my journals and blah, blah, blah, and then... well, I got engaged in reading a really long Rodney h/c fic and forgot about it. *g*

One must have priorities. :-D

Time was better spent reading fic, I'm sure.

I have no problem with it, either. Nor do I think they need to bend over backwards to overcommunicate this sort of stuff. So there. I'm even more unpopular.

The thing that perplexes me about the communications bit is the little fact that this change isn't going to effect existing journals. So I can see why, in their usual clumsy, ineffective way, they didn't think about it. Which, yeah, may be dumb but is it really worth getting bent out of shape about?

I say, go ahead. It's your LJ, your thoughts, and PFFT on anyone who can't handle it :D

If I defriended everyone who had ideas that weren't TOTALLY in line with mine, I'd have 2 people left. MAYBE.

Heh!

On the other hand, I have a low threshold for kerfuffling (What? No serious. Okay, not always, but sometimes. Heh.)

Some pots are best left unstirred. :)

Although if I did decide to get my full rant on, it would probably contain some of the talking points that appear here (http://commentisfree.guardian.co.uk/michelle_goldberg/2008/03/hell_hath_no_fury.html) and here (http://www.huffingtonpost.com/jack-rothman/hillary-obliges-the-right_b_91176.html) Not word for word, of course, because I differ in the details, but the generalized sentiment is somewhat in the ballpark.

I agree, on both points! I find it frustrating to hear "leaders" presume to speak for dems or feminists in terms I find horribly devisive and contrary to the purposes and aims of either!
