You know, you have a point there. Part of it is surely because they killed her off in Chosen. But I think the other part of it is that ME attempted character assassination of both Anya and Spike in S6/S7. Spike's fanbase was rabid enough to fit it off but I think poor Anya didn't have enough vocal fans to save her for posterity.
I miss Anya. She was a lot of fun and in the end, ME treated her as disposable so that they wouldn't have to kill one of those worthless Scoobies.
Yeah, Anya had the greatest disservice done to her. They pretty much removed all of her connections. They broke her up with Xander (and never allowed him to show much -- any? -- grief over her death), took away the Magic Box, and killed her. It's like they stripped her of any purpose then just expunged her existence. And she was an interesting character.
Expunged! That's absolutely it. She was expunged from the record. They took everthing from her, forced her back into demonhood, then neutered her all in service of their 'demons cannot be redeemed' meme. All she was good for was to have pity sex with Xander and then serve as cannon fodder in the final battle. Didn't she sacrifice herself to save ANDREW of all people? In S6, people were actually shipping her with GILES and now it's as if she wasn't even on the show! Hell, of course Giles was sacrificed at the Altar of Buffy Awesomeness, too.
