Hopefully the National Hurricane Center is overreacting. Hopefully, it won't be as bad as predicted. But, my god, according to Anderson Cooper they've just released an evacuation order that states if you stay in Galveston, you're "facing certain death."

What? WHAT?!!

Here's hoping they do absolutely everything necessary to evacuate people now.

According to the Weather Channel's Evening Edition, 75% of the people in the threatened parts of the city had already evacuated by 7 o'clock last night.

I think the memory of the 1900 hurricane which practically wiped out the city is strong -- and the storm surge is going to be worse this time.

Yup he said they issued the same warning just before Katrina so it is dire! I feel certain (especially with elections coming soon) everything will be done properly and quickly.

I read an article in Texas Monthly about that hurricane and accompanying storm surge - it left a HUGE impression on me; I can only imagine what it's like for the people actually in Galveston. I got notices from several of the indie groups I follow canceling shows all along the coast as they hightail it for higher ground.

I think it's impossible to evacuuate Houston. BUt I hope they can at least get everyone out of Galveston.

They're saying this morning that due to the size of the storm that there's a good possibility that the storm surge will be worse than Katrina even though the winds aren't as high.

Here's hoping everyone leaves Galveston and that they stay safe in Houston.

Having watched a documentary about Isaac's Storm, the hurricane that hit Galveston about 100 years ago, I can believe it! Scary.

Have you seen the satellite pictures?!?!?!?! This puppy COVERS the gulf and then some. It looks apocalyptic like a hell mouth in the sky. I have tons of family in the Houston area and after having other family lose homes with Katrina (Gulfport that time) I am worried. Course I am worried about non-family too...scary.
