Taking the cue from [livejournal.com profile] swsa, my list of anti-ships (aka ships that drive me insane)

1) Todd Manning/anyone with a vagina, One Life to Live (he's a damned three four time rapist! And seeing the woman he raped (twice!), the ex-wife/girlfriend he punched and abandoned, and the other ex-wife he also raped, brain tumor my ass! whose kids he's stolen abused moon over the bastard makes me want to break things. A lot of things. The narcissistic twerp needs to die.)

2) Jack/Kate, Lost

3) Big/Carrie, Sex and the City (He treated her like shit, and she was stupid enough to crave it.)

4) Starbuck(Kara)/Apollo (Lee), Battlestar Galactica (the quadrangle of doom pretty much ruined the entire show for me, and I'm blaming these two the most).

6) Wesley/Fred, AtS (It just got creepy, okay? And I say that while loving both characters and finding their endings tragic. But... still. Yuck.)

7) Connor/Cordy, AtS (Incest vibes, anyone? And I know she was possessed. But, still. A few months prior she was changing his diapers!)

8) Meredith/McDreamy, Grey's Anatomy (I've only seen about 3 episodes in the entire history of the show {and the commercials}, and even that's enough to tell me that I hate them).

9) Mulder/Fowley, X-Files (Mimi Rogers's character was such a legendary ball of suck that I cheered when her character died.)

10) Elizabeth/Will, Pirates of the Caribbean (What can I say? It just didn't work for me)

Hee! If they'd just stop pimping Jack/Kate as 'destined' I wouldn't be half as annoyed by them.

Wow, agree with you on every single one except for #1 because I don't watch the soap and #8 because I'd rather gouge my eyes out than watch Grey's Anatomy.

I particularly agree on #3 - it's the reason I will NEVER see the movie[s]. Big was a consistent asshole who tortured Carrie, and the idea that millions of women STILL thought they were "meant to be together" makes me want to howl at all that persistent, willful stupidity and masochism.

It's really unhealthy how much I've grown to loathe the character of Todd. If only there wasn't Brody, wee earnest Navy Seal of shirtless hotness I'd have stopped watching OLTL entirely by now.

And I can't stomach Grey's either. But nothing is on TV and I have it on right now and seeing the two of them reminds me why I can never watch this show, even if it does have Lucius Vorenus now.

SATC: Dude, not only did he yank her chain repeatedly throughout the series, in the movie he left her at the altar and she took him back! The mind boggles. (Not that she's a great prize. But, still, he's a massive douche).

I don't exactly hate Meredidth/McDreamy, it's more of a take it or leave it thing with me. And they're a lot more tolerable now than they used to be when she was leaving him every 5 minutes.

But even if you hate them, the show is totally worth it for Kevin McKidd. I adore Owen/Cristina (I should have put them on my 10 favorites list).

even if it does have Lucius Vorenus now.

I fast-forwarded through one [awful] downloaded episode to see how he'd do, and as with Journeyman, he makes a terrible American. Totally unconvincing - I wish he would stick with the Scots/British roles. Plus I loathe Sandra Oh, and the thought of them together - ugh.

I can only come up with four or five couples that irritate me that much (canon ones, anyway - there are any number of UC ones that make me go WTF, but I don't feel like they count in the same way a canon pairing would.

It would be a stretch to really say that I hated them equally because, while I was creeped out by Wes/Fred after a while, I do love both characters so it's not a visceral hatred of the pairing just a dislike. And PoTC really is kind of a stretch as I've never participated in the fandom, just noticed that I rooted against them ending up together. On the other hand, Kara/Lee wore out my last nerve and I'm probably one of the few that said "good!" when they never got to be together. And the fact that OLTL continues to insist on selling a convicted serial/gang rapist who has abused every woman and progeny in his life over the last fifteen years as a 'romantic lead' chaps my hide. I could handle it as long as it was Roger Howarth in the role because he insisted that the character could never be a romantic lead. But the replacement actor makes truly bizarre choices that make be go "ugh!"

I think one thing that I tend to step cautiously away from is whenever a show tries to sell the "soulmate" and/or "destined" schtick. That's really my primary beef with Jack/Kate, though it's not a show-love-killing irritation. Just irritation.

Yeah, I did notice that all the ones I could come up with are couples the show was trying to force down my throat as 'meant to be.'

#2: Yeah. Though for me, I just don't like Kate...Jack annoys me at times, but he's a bit of alright.

#3: Carrie created drama when there wasn't any. Like when he was married, during their affair? He said he'd walk away...she said no. When they first started dating, and he said that sure, he was on the slow bus, but he was still moving forward, she was all "now or never." Or in that awful movie--he got cold feet and came right back. No one would have been the wiser, but she throws a huge fit. Yes--Samantha and Charlotte were my faves :P

And major "word" on that Will/Elizabeth thing. Don't know how I missed that one...

It isn't so much Jack or Kate that makes me hate Jack/Kate. I mean, I'm not a 'fan' of either, but, on an individual basis, I rather enjoy watching them screw things up and having things screwed up. But seeing the show trying to sell them as "starcrossed" makes me roll my eyes and wonder why in the hell I'm supposed to root for them as a duo.

And it's true that Carrie Bradshaw was no prize (Aidan really should've run. He actually was too good for her). Still in a douche off, I think Big is the bigger douche of the Carrie/Big duo.

I really stopped caring about their "star crossed" anything. I was hoping for Sawyer/Juliette...Gosh I can't wait for it to come back.

And Aidan...jeebus H., I felt for him. The second time around was just...yeah, Carrie and the drama. She was just immersed in arrested development.

Yeah from what I remember of the move (only saw it once) Big didn't actually plan to leave Carrie at the altar and take off like I had expected from what people were saying. He rang on the day of the wedding to start saying he needed time and could they hold off on the ceremony to talk, and then she freaked out, screamed and dropped the phone. He was turning the car to join her at the wedding when she came up to him throwing the flowers. Although, to be fair, I can see why Carrie did freak out without hearing more *g*

I always wondered why the movie had to have them getting married in the first place though as Carrie was literally throwing up at Aidan's engagement ring and unable to commit to him, so I always saw her and Big as being alike in wanting the relationship without the commitment of marriage, and I think they even had a few discussions along those lines when she was considering settling down with Aidan and Big said neither he or Carrie are the type to settle down

He was willing to get hitched cause he loved her, but it was clear that it was something he was uncomfortable with. So if you find a guy who wants to marry you, but is hesitant at the whole scene, being married twice before, why have this *huge* wedding that's guaranteed to freak him out? The movie overall was disappointing in oh so many ways to me.

I can see her being upset as well without hearing more, but the fact that he turned around, started explaining that he had a bit of cold feet was okay...I didn't see why freak out after that. If they wanted to have them separated for the bulk of the movie and give a reason to have Carrie be a brunette, there were better ways to do it :P

Having just watched Angel season 4 for the first time recently, I'd agree that Connor/Cordy was ick, and that it was meant to be so; (the tiny hint of Connor/Faith, though, felt very right); and yes, I just didn't go for Wes/Fred either — that squishy little-girliness of both her and Willow, that Joss clearly thinks is so lovable, does nothing for me; Wes was much more interesting with Lilah, not because it was dirty bad wrong, but for that amazing moving speech that ``dead'' Lilah made to Wes about what was between them, while he was standing there trying to work himself up to cutting off her head.

I agree that Wes/Lilah was quite rich with complicated potential.

Oh god. Just the title of your post immediately brought to mind Mulder/Fowley so forcefully that it blocked out everything else.

And then I remembered Jack/Kate, Sawyer/Kate, Sayid/Kate, Kate.... yeah, I'm sensing a theme here....

I love Grey's for the quirky characters, but for a long time it was in spite of Mer/Der. They've improved a lot recently, since Grey's actually allows its characters to grow and change, but Mer/Der is never going to be a draw in my book. I agree with [livejournal.com profile] cindergal; it's all about the Owen/Cristina.

But I liked Elizabeth/Will...

Oh right there with the giant ball of suck with Mulder/Fowley. Mimi Rogers came across as Mimi Rogers and not Fowley. It was forced and painful
