Discovery Channel voice over as the participants eat...er... squirrel stew:

"This is the first meal they've had in three days."

Me: Daaaayummm.

The first thing that came to my mind is a line from UP:

"It's funny 'cause the squirrel gets dead." :-)

I admit what sucked me into watching the show was catching a glimpse of a far earlier ep where they were sitting around a pot stove being positively orgasmic over a stewed porcupine. I was like, damn, those people have to be hungry to think that porcupine is that good!

And the people over on History Channel's "Expedition Africa" could really have used casting advice from Discover Channel's "Out of the Wild". The people in "Out of the Wild" weren't annoying and seemed like genuinely decent people. The people on "Expedition Africa" look like complete tools.

I have loved Out of the Wild. Survivor without the bikinis and backstabbing.

And squirrel is not that bad.

I just can't watch it with my dad. He gets self-righteous since he spent a summer in the bush as a grad student. "What, they can't catch a $@^$^@ fish? What's wrong with these losers. when I was there, blah blah blah balh blah blah blah."

I must admit that I've eaten squirrel before. More than once. Fried. (And it's pretty good).

Can't imagine skinning and eating a 30lb porcupine, though.
