Before whatever wank of wanks arrives today with the latest crackfest edition of Season 8, I ask this question:

Is BtVS Season 8 Whedon's Scrotie McBoogerballs?

Intentional on his/their part or  totally lacking self-awareness accidental?

Yes/No?

Dammit, why didn't I see that episode! I love Matt and Trey. Even when they fail, I think they remain true to themselves. Joss? I'm pretty sure doesn't fall into that category anymore.

It's actually both disgusting and amusing.

And it does tend to remind me of a lot of tv fanwanking that goes around, especially some of the strained Joss meta I've seen in the last ten years.

I think I need to see that episode. And far be it from me to point out that Joss is ginger and sort of looks like an older Scott Tenorman.

Well, I need to get home first. :-) But thanks!

Hee :)

I'm afraid no. I still can't let go of the hope that some of the crack is intentional, but for the most part they fucked up.

There are times when I can almost convince myself it's some of it might be intentional.

Then one of them opens their mouths.

Yes. That's why he named Dawn's boyfriend Kenny, as an absurd homage. He always said he based "Walk Through The Fire" on "La Resistance" from the South Park movie.

Sorry. People have been quoting Monty Python in response to issue #35, and I, in all my American ignorance, don't get it. But at least I can make South Park references!

Well, "La Resistance" was in turn based on "One More Day" from "Les Miserables"...

Oh, I don't know at all. All I know is that I've got a sick feeling in the pit of my stomach, the same one I've been getting the last few times a new comic installment came out.

He long ago drank his own Kool Aid. Its why his later work has been so repetitive of the same tropes that he's become so completely predictable and predictably awful - it's a complete lack of self awareness/criticism.

OMG I'd forgotten about that episode! Yes, of course it is! *g*

If you mean Scrotie McBoogerballs as in It serves as a satire of pop culture criticism, and mocks people who find hidden messages in works where there are none. then yes.

If you mean it as in Joss & Co sat around and purposely wrote B.S. for shits and giggles, and were shocked at how some took it so seriously, analyzing the hell out of it, etc., then no. I honestly feel like they went in with genuine intentions of telling a story, and think they're doing a good job. They are the equivalent of Butters in that ep, IMO--believing their own bullshit (though, it wasn't actually Butters' B.S...initially).

Can't really answer that, because I'm not reading the comics - but it could also be that somebody's fanfic was Scrotie McBoogerballs, and S8 is "The Poo that took a Pee"...

At this point, that's a perfectly plausible theory.

I was so surprised when Joss was surprised by the cancellation of AtS -- 'like a healthy guy dropping dead of a heart attack' -- and continued to maintain that the work had been really good.

For ages Gene Roddenberry was considered 'The Great Bird of the Galaxy', only to be gradually edged out of Next Gen because of his disastrous influence. All the frays and bits of machinery that kept poking through in Buffy 7 and Angel 5 poke are like horrifying compound fractures in S8 . . .
