shipperx: (survive crichton scorpy)

So I tend to call my mother most days before work (see what a good daughter I am?)  But this morning she was not answering.  So I ended up calling my dad who told me that Mom had been spitting up blood last night and he'd insisted that she go to the doctor this morning.  (She fell the other day during the snake incident).  I told him to make her call me when she got back.

The doctor ran a few tests and took an x-ray, finding a shadow on her lung.  He said that he thought it was pneumonia but sent her for a CAT scan.   She said that results from it wouldn't be back until Monday, but she later called and said that results had come back and it was pneumonia.  I'm not sure, however, whether she was speaking of the earlier tests or the CAT scan.

Hopefully it really is just pneumonia.  Pneumonia isn't great, even walking pneumonia-- which since she's not showing any other symptoms would be what she must have -- but at least it's something that's easily cured with antibiotics.  So, hopefully, that is all.

I hope the pills did the same quick and complete job they did for me a month or so ago.

The snake incident? lj didn't and still isn't showing me anything that looks like a snake incident post. Anyway, my fingers are crossed that she recovers quickly.

It's from the other day when there was a snake in my yard. I only mentioned it briefly here:http://shipperx.livejournal.com/541145.html) I called my dad (because I'm a big wussy!) And mom and dad came over so that dad could kill the snake.

She walked around the back of the house, came face to face with the snake, freaked out when backing away and fell... then freaked out even worse. And... okay, it was kind of comical. (Turns out it wasn't a poisonous snake).

She didn't think she was hurt at the time, but yesterday she found a nice big green bruise from when she fell, so it must've been a deep bruise. Then she spit blood last night and dad sent her to the doctor today.)

Well, it wasn't much of an incident. Albeit, I suppose in retrospect she was injured worse than she thought. At the time it just looked like flailing without injury, and in my LJ I only mentioned -- SNAKE!!!! (I'm very phobic of snakes. If Dad didn't kill it, I don't know that I could go into the back yard again until winter. I'm that phobic).

Hopes and prayers for the best! (You're right, it's not GOOD, but it IS take-careofable, especially if they caught it reasonably early.)

Hopefully it won't take long. She doesn't do 'sick' well. Most of the time she won't acknowledge when she is or take the time to rest.

But, thankfully, it seems like it's just pneumonia, which is bad enough, but at least it's not something worse.

Glad you're feeling better.

It must be walking pneumonia because she didn't really know that she was even sick. Hopefully antibiotics will knock it out.

Thanks. I know it's weird but after hearing that she was spitting up blood I was actually relieved that it was just pneumonia.

It seems as though the CAT scan came back really fast because they confirmed her doctor's diagnosis of pneumonia. After hearing she had spit up blood, I'm relieved that it's pneumonia. Walking pneumonia is quite treatable with rest and antibiotics, so it's really the best possible diagnosis.

Hopefully rest and antibiotics will do the trick.

They apparently got results from the CAT scan really quickly, or it was really obvious to the radiologist because they called Mom's doctor and the doc called her (his MIL and my mom are best friends) and it sounds like the CAT scan confirmed his diagnosis. Given that she spit up blood, I was relieved by the diagnosis of walking pneumonia. That's treated with rest and antibiotics.

Sounds like it was confirmed as walking pneumonia which while no fun is quite treatable so all in all a good diagnosis.

Having had walking pneumonia twice myself I feel for her. But given all the possibilities when someone is spitting up blood, I'm relieved that it's pneumonia. That can be treated with antibiotics, rest and Advair. So it's the far better of the possibilities.

Definitely. I haven't had full-blown pneumonia since I was 13, but it definitely left my lungs the worse for wear; I didn't have allergies until after that.

Same here. I had never had asthma in my life but after I got pneumonia in my twenties I've had several bronchial/asthmatic type cough/reactions. I do think that it must cause permanent scarring or something.

Still, at least it's something quite treatable and will pass.

They seem to have gotten results from the CAT scan really quickly, or it was really obvious, because they called Mom's doctor and the doc called her (his MIL and my mom are best friends and his younger brother was one of my best friends when I was growing up so he's a family friend) and it sounds though the CAT scan confirmed his diagnosis of pneumonia. Given that she spit up blood, I was relieved by the diagnosis of walking pneumonia. That's treated with rest and antibiotics. What's a little amusing is that now she'll actually admit to not feeling great. It's as though having a diagnosis now she feels it's "okay" to rest and feel a bit rundown whereas otherwise she'd totally deny it.

She should be. It's strange but now that she has a diagnosis she'll actually admit to not feeling so great whereas otherwise she'd just deny it and keep going. Hopefully rest and antibiotics will clear her up.
