Northern Exposure - 20th Anniversary

:
[livejournal.com profile] petzipellepingo linked to an EW post about today being the 20th anniversary of the premier of the tv series "Northern Exposure." Boy, that makes me feel old!

It was a show about a tiny, eccentric town in Alaska called Cicely (which could never be confused with Palin's Wassila)that was full of quirky, lovely characters. In a fit of nostaligia I hit YouTube, so some poetic and lyrical NE moments:

Such good times! I miss all those characters.

I loved that show; and it was also the one show I always thought of first when discussing shows that had a wonderful, inspiring, undisappointing, unlame ending.

YouTube took down the clip I used to have bookmarked of the last scene of the series, but they do have a clip of Iris Dement singing the song from that scene live:

No matter how many times I hear it, I cannot hear this song without crying... or without thinking of the wonderful ending of Northern Exposure.

Thank you so much for finding this! *wipes away tear* That was one hell of a great show!

Oh, now I know what my next watch-through HAS to be! I miss this show so much!

(And it occurs to me I'm wrong when I think that BtVS was the first hour-long "dramady" I watched religiously!)

I can't think of a show that had so many complete and wonderful characters.

And Rick being hit by falling space junk and becoming one with it still one of the funniest things I've ever seen.

I watched this back in the day on Bravo (when the channel didn't suck). It was a good show. Can't believe it's 20 years old. I was in Middle and High school.
