shipperx* So last year the team I'm a fan of won the national championship in college football and this year the school where I actually graduated has won the right to play in the championship game. Dusting off the old college spirit -- War Eagle - hey!
* Glad the abusive jerk didn't make it to the finale of The Amazing Race. I'm really, really rooting for one of the all-girl teams to win.
* For the first time in forever, I don't feel sick at all. Yay!
* Lots of debates in the Buffyverse fandom as people dig themselves into their positions. *Sigh* Thus is fandom. We really can't help the way that we see things or how we feel. And we can't really help digging our heels in when trying to be talked out of how we feel. It's human nature. If we didn't see it the way we see it, we wouldn't have formed the opinions that we've formed.
* Caught up on Boardwalk Empire last night.
* Went shopping yesterday and bought a few new sweaters (all my old ones seemed to be in less than awesome condition).
* It's damn cold outside.
* And what with the 'betrayal' questions bobbing around, I have, in my own convoluted, back-asswards way, found myself thinking of Orwell's 1984. (How I found myself thinking about it had to do with the topic of whether or not having the protagonist lose validates those persecuting them. I think it's in how it's executed. Which made me think of 1984 where the protagonist loses but it's without validating the views that oppress him.). Anyway, I ran across a 1984 quote that I found interesting, especially in light of the 'betrayal' debates:

She gave him another quick look of dislike.
"Sometimes," she said, "they threaten you with something—something you can't stand up to, can't think about. And then you say, 'Don't do it to me, do it to somebody else, do it to so-and-so.' At the time when it happens you do mean it. You think there's no other way of saving yourself and you're quite ready to save yourself that way. You want it to happen to the other person. You don't give a damn what they suffer. All you care about is yourself."
"All you care about is yourself," he echoed.
"And after that, you don't feel the same toward the other person any longer."
"No," he said, "you don't feel the same."

I think the deal with the comics is that it presents Buffy and company up against an immovable object: The Universe. I think the writers tried to give the universe a face (and failed miserably) in order to somehow show that nature itself is unfair and sexist. I don't know if it's validating the persecutor as much as saying "This is how it is, and there is no changing it, lest it all be torn asunder." If that was their intent, it just makes the story even more pointless.

Buffy saved their lives. Not a hard call. If it wasn't for the fact that I think Buffy herself is going to disband her organization, I'd suspect she'd be an even bigger hero to them.
Because generals who screw the enemy and get their army slaughtered en masse are always the bigger hero at the end of the day...

If Buffy was characteristically distraught after learning what happened, maybe-perhaps. But of course if she were behaving characteristically, shit never would have happened to begin with.
