It seems that they're moving closer to casting "The Hunger Games" and rumors of who is in the front running. Looking at Winter's Bone, she may have the necessary chops (though they'd have to search for hair dye)

Haha, then again, today there is this. So really, no one knows anything, lol. (Although I'm half tempted to believe that Lawrence really IS the frontrunner, Lionsgate didn't want the story leaked, and now they're just trying to cover their asses until a contract is signed.)

I stand by my thought that Breslin is wrong, wrong, wrong for the role. I just can't wrap my head around her as Katniss.

I wouldn't have any problem with Hallie Steinfeld though, however I did think there was something to the fact that who they cast as Katniss impacts the ages of other actors involved and 16 year old boys may not be what they want to cast and yet anyone much older than that would come off as a perv with Steinfeld.

And given the subject matter, it might be in there interest to go a bit older because they really can't sell "Hunger Games" to a particularly young audience, not and stay true to the book.

It'll be interesting to see where they go. I think it's good that they're looking at two Oscar nominees.

Yeah. I have no idea who they'd pick for the guys, since I really don't know any actors in that age range. But I'd rather they go a little older and get better actors than just cast whatever Disney tween is popular these days.

The other thing is child labor laws. Under 18, they'll be limited in how much the actors can work, so they may go with someone older to avoid that.

Isn't Lawrence a little old for the role? I thought they were looking at Haillie Steinfeld, who would be about 15 when filming starts. I can understand why they'd want to use a young-looking adult instead of a kid for a big movie, but after seeing Lawrence on the Oscars red carpet, she's no one's idea of a kid. Jeebus.

Yeah. She's 20. But I'm also persuaded by the argument that I've read that the age of the actress playing Katniss directly effects the ages of the actors playing Peeta and Gale, and I think that they aren't going to want some awkward 16 year old playing their love interests.

I like Hallie Steinfeld and wouldn't complain, but it would complicate the other casting because are there any boys out there of comparable quality in that age range?

And given the subject matter of the book, it may be easier to skew a bit older than a bit younger.

Who knows, though. It'll be interesting to see who they choose.

No matter who they cast as Katniss, the male roles will be filled by callow pretty boys because they'll want to cater to the American teens who love the books (a new demo apart from the Twilight acolytes). I'm thinking guys such as Alex Pettyfer (although he's nuts so maybe not), Logan Lerman, Taylor Lautner, Jamie Campbell Bower, Zac Efron, and, if they can afford him and he's game, Justin Bieber. Gross, I know, but entirely possible, even with new sexpot Lawrence as the lead.
