Passed a  gaggle?  pack?  murder?   f wild turkeys wandering by the side of the road this morning.  There were at least six of them, one of which was splayed out like a poster for Thanksgiving!

How weird and unexpected.

A rafter of turkeys, apparently. (And penguins can be both a huddle and a parcel.) I love collective nouns.

You know, I spent the first forty years of my life without ever seeing a wild turkey. But since then it's been turkeys, turkeys, turkeys. They must be having quite a comeback or something.

Do you not usually see them where you are? We have a couple of flocks around here that come through the yard nearly every day. (They even nest in our trees sometimes -- now THAT'S a weird sight!) I haven't seen the boys doing their HEY, LAAADIEES! dance yet this year but I'm expecting it soon.

According to my old copy of An Exaltation of Larks either "rafter of turkeys" or, if it is November, a "death-row of turkeys."
