* Hope everyone in the U.S. had a nice holiday.
* I got plenty of sleep and I've been eating (somewhat) normally. I haven't been sickened from anything but I find I'm still grossed out really easily.
* Watched all of John Adams over the weekend... seemed a very 4th of July type mini-series.
* Watched True Blood and at least they finally got to the book plot all the Eric fans have been salivating over since the beginning of forever (though I have to say, I read that particular Charlaine Harris book and eh. But, hey, at least it's not Meg Cabot's vampire book (which I saw on Amazon yesterday has a sequel. Holy cow, why?! Book 1 sucked!) With True Blood, I actually enjoy the show more than the books.
* Taking a vacation from "depressing books" GRRMartin style and have begun reading "The Help". I've been enjoying it thus far. And I see there's a movie coming up.
* Watched several eps of Drop Dead Diva since they were replaying by marathon and not much was on. Though I still think they dropped the ball on the "OMG, Grayson almost died" cliffhanger. I tip my hat to their handling of the main character struggling with her ex becoming engaged to someone else and asking her to be 'best man' because -- ouch. Hard not to feel for the protagonist with that one. And good for her, for trying to be a good friend but also not wallow in self pity as she goes out on dates with a new guy who likes the 'new her' just fine.

Date: 2011-07-06 03:15 am (UTC)What did you think of John Adams? I enjoyed it so much I bought the book - and it was quite good as well, though it took me awhile to get through. Bit of a doorstop, that one.
I just watched the first 2 eps of True Blood this evening - pretty underwhelmed so far. The
Land of the LostFairy land chase scene with the hurled balls of light made me laugh, but I don't think laughter is what they were going for. I loved S3 for all of it's OTT wackiness, but that was ridiculous. The idea of Eric suffering from some kind of memory loss is intriguing, but I like him cold and smug and calculating. I very much hope having his brain zapped doesn't provide easy fodder for he and Sookie to get together. That seems like awfully lazy plotting. I haven't read the books so I don't know, but I dislike the idea of Eric/Sookie being so easy. Would feel like a cheat. I'd rather see him with Pam anyway, so...

That's pretty much exactly what it came off as in thebook. And I don't worry about their following the book. When I read it, it was like Harris forgot what Sookie was even supposed to be looking into half-way through. As far as I could tell it had no plot and existed solely to give an excuse for Sookie to have sex with Eric, so if Ball wants to play fast and loose with it, I'm willing to watch him do so. The witches are already more interesting than they were in the book (and considering how underwhelming the first episodes were, that's got to be indicative of something.) I also think part of my problem was that there was a similar plot in one of the early Dresden Files novels... and it was more interesting.
