shipperx: (XF - WTF?)

The more I read about the Penn State thing, the more speechless I become. I just... this is awful.  This is deeply, truly, unbearably awful.  How do so many people fail so badly?  This is sad, tragic, and terrible. My God.  Those poor children.

ETA:  Dear lord, it's sounds like it may be even worse.  SportsByBrooks is a rumor-monger, but if this is even a little true... dear lord.

Good Lord. I just...can't.

But there's so much wrong with this beyond just the obvious--the fact that nobody did anything to stop this, the fact that so many people are more upset about Paterno being fired than about what actually happened. This has to be about the kids who were hurt, that has to be the focus, that should be what people are most upset about. The end.

So many people failed these children. It's horrible. And tragic. And awful. And horrible.

If I see one more person whining about the damage to the football program, I'm going to ram a football somewhere extremely uncomfortable.

Yes. It's heartbreaking to think of those children and the way ALL of those people failed them.

Reading the timeline was just chilling.

A janitor walked in on his molestation.

Another janitor walked in on his molestation.

An assistant coach walked in on his raping a ten year old.

The campus 'investigated.'

And no one told the fucking POLICE! Or exposed him. Or FIRED THE BASTARD. Or even took the keys to the facilities away. He was using the weight rooms last week!

And there are now 20 alleged victims, and the first "they walked in on it" happened in 1998!!!

My god.

I keep thinking about the graduate assistant. What kind of person do you have to be to see an adult raping a child and then just walk out? To not tell him to stop or to actually stop him? To not call the police?

And can't say I think much of his father, a man with a least one son of his own, who just had him report it to the coach and not call the police.

I hope very much I will not be that sort of person. Ever.

What shocked me when reading ESPN's 'timeline' was that the graduate assisstant was actually the third person to walk in on him with a victim. There were two prior incidents where janitors had walked into the shower to discover him there with a child. The grad student was THIRD. And all of them contacted the school about it (why they didn't contact the POLICE, I'll never understand).

It boggles the mind.

so many people failed these children is right. all of these men involved who took no action should be prosecuted and Sandusky should get life, with no chance of parol. unfortunately, the children will continue to be failed, that is the nature of our system, that protects corporations and profits over children. i doubt the children will even receive the psychiatrict counseling fully that they need to prevent all of them from becoming sexual predators themselves. from the way this has all played out and will be hushed up as much as possible to protect the sports program, i'm willing to bet we will see at least one of the victims in the news as an adult sexual predator in the future.

i saw so much of this in the University of Nebraska football system (i live in Lincoln, NE). they've long been known to cover up sexual assaults and rapes. i had three friends while i was in college who were sexually assaulted and/or raped by football players, and it was hushed up. i can't say i'm surprised by this, or that no one acted.

According to a guy who first hinted at this story back in April, there is more to come out. Given that everything he said then has turned out to be true, it would suggest that this guy was pimping the Second Mile children to bidders and the like could very well be true.

So freaking revolting and I think it will turn out worse than it looks now. Worst still, coming from the same guy, it was all essentially an not-so-secret in the NCAA that this was all going on, hence no other colleges approaching Sandusky after they made him retire.

It's the Catholic Church and the Boy Scouts of America all over again: male-dominated hierarchies hell-bent on protecting their own at all costs. It's as pervasive as it is disgusting.

But more disgusting still are the idiots who rioted on behalf of these horrible people, all in the name of "college football." I hope they're all familiar with karma, and I hope none of their children are ever thrown in the path of someone like Sandusky and the equally monstrous people who cover up his crimes at their expense.

I have to put my faith in lawyers and civil courts now. I hope these kids and their parents bankrupt PSU.
