Revenge...

I do enjoy that though they sometimes do the expected, they do it in such a juicy -- come on, admit it, you wanted it to happen like that -- way that it's just popcorn TV.  So...

*  I rather enjoyed the Daniel/E-manda proposal scene.  He went to such trouble.  And you can see how it would play as this incredible romantic gesture... and yet... and yet... the music and the staging loaded the scene with foreboding rather than romance... which is exactly what it deserved since Emanda is playing the dude.  I do think she pities him, but she goes right on using him.

*  Plus E-manda using the revelation about Charlotte to get rid or A-mily.  (Called Charlotte being E-manda's half-sister way back in episode 1!)

*  Charlotte being basically disowned but with no real idea why.  I'm actually beginning to feel sorry for the girl.  Hey, Dad, you raised the girl for 18 years.  Newsflash, you are her father no matter what DNA tests show.  (This show is SUCH a soap! Hee!)

* E-manda actually debating placing her revenge scheme on hold... until Victoria lies to Daniel, saying that Charlotte is illegitimate because she was raped.  First you accuse him of terrorism, and now of rape?  Pause button off.  It is so ON!  Hee!

I like the fact that in this show, it's the women who drive things (and aren't above being ruthless).

I feel so bad for Charlotte. She's such a sweet kid, so unaware of all that is happening around her. You could tell that Emanda was feeling bad about using Daniel in her scheme and going along with the proposal UNTIL he talked about her father being a rapist. I mean, seriously HOW LOW can Victoria go?? I can't wait to see what the rest of the season brings.

You have to give this show a bit of credit over the classic soap in that it so tightly plotted. It has to be - in order to do what it is doing. That bit with Daniel and A-Emily was well done. As was the bit with the attorney, who turned out to be one of E-Amanda's allies and therefore managed to plant evidence that A-Emily was Charlotte's sis and David Clark's daughter.

Also, agree - say what you will about Revenge, at least it is female driven, the women drive the show. Using their wits and manipulation over macho violence.

Hee. Felt the same thrill. After that bit, I thought, ghod, he so deserves to die...and Victoria so deserves to lose him and everything else. Victoria always goes for self-preservation, no matter what the damage. She's unknowingly created her own worst enemy in E-Amanda. She created E-Amanda.
And the show unerringly shows all the ways in which...if Victoria had only chosen to do the selfless thing, it would not have happened.

It's inevitable but fun. And it works plot wise. The problem with shocking plot twists in serials is well, they often don't work logically - they come from nowhere. It's what bothered me in some of Whedon's later works - he got too enamored of the "shocking" "jaw-dropping" plot twist, same with LOST.
Predictable isn't always a bad thing, sometimes it's less predictable than the shocking plot twist.

That said?

So agree..

I think I've watched too many soap operas to care about Charlotte. She is such a classic trope. I do however, oddly, feel sorry for A-Emily. I like the actress better. Charlotte comes across as a sort of disenfranchised whiny spoiled teen. I keep wanting to smack her for some reason. Honey, the problem with being Daddy's girl, is Daddy is such a manipulative asshole - can't you see it? Not that Mommy is much better. OOOh, it is such a soap in this regard.
