They did the same poll in my state the week of our primary as well.  And the results were even worse. I just can't help but wonder what it says that, despite all evidence to the contrary, people stubbornly and vehemently cling to such disproved myths.  The only way to still believe this crap is to want to believe it.  And that leads me to thinking...

Well, here is the result for Illinois  (it was far worse than that in Alabama.  Which--- ughhh!)
Do you think Barack Obama is a Christian or a Muslim, or are you not sure?
Muslim: 39
Not sure: 37
Christian: 24

Do you think Barack Obama was born in the United States, or not?
Was born in U.S.: 36
Not born in U.S.: 36
Not sure: 28

My home's state's depressing result was:

Do you think Barack Obama is a Christian or a Muslim, or are you not sure?
Muslim: 45
Not sure: 41
Christian: 14

Was this poll asking just Republican voters these questions, or was it all voters? And yes, I think you're right when you say ignoramuses WANT to believe these things. My state (Tennessee) hasn't been polled, but the results would be just as bad.

Likely Republican Primary Voters (which makes it somewhat comforting that primary turn-out has been LOW this cycle).

I'm sensing a correlation between our failing educational system and... THIS.

Ugh, idiots abound.

Who the hell takes these polls? I can't think of anyone that I know of here in Illinois who would think that. Of course, I know precious few stupid people.

I do think there is a bit of a selection process in that... they were polling the crap out of area (I had calls all. the. damn. time.) on my landline but A) I rarely answer my landline because anyone who I know who wants to talk to me will call my cell. B) I have caller I.D. so even if I were tempted to answer, caller I.D. told me who it was so I chose not to.

I would venture to say that there's a percentage of the population that feels the same.

Why isn't there an "i don't care" box to check is what I want to know. Who gives a flying fuck what religion he is?

It doesn't matter... except it does to the folks who believe this misinformation despite all evidence to the contrary.

They STILL think he's a Muslim? And even if he is (I know he isn't), why does it matter? Who cares! Seriously, they whine about religious freedom and protection of such when it suits their purposes, but not when it suits anyone who isn't them.

Can we say selfish hypocritical paranoid idiots? Yes we can. ;-)

I should add...that I unfortunately have met some of these idiots, we don't discuss politics...it leads to much throwing of rotten fruit and pulling of hair. Hardly productive. They reside in the surburban outlying areas of every state in the US. Including NY. But seem to be particularly prevalent in Kansas and South Carolina.
