I have been having a lot of trouble on my Facebook keeping my peace because I have some very anti-Obama faux-libertarians (i.e. a bunch of pseudo-hippie hipsters still living off their parents' money, who think that voting for Ron Paul is going to make all of America's problems magically go away... and make pot legal. Can't forget about how important smoking weed is!) on my FB. I normally don't respond to them at all, but after seeing my bumper sticker on my notebook, tucked in my backpack, I realized I was hiding. What do I have to be afraid of? That they'll defriend me? Finally, today, I had had enough because I watched as someone, who I know complains all the time about the rates of her student loans and who was actually happy with the original student loan reform earlier in Obama's presidency (where the private banks could no longer act as a middle-man in the fed. loans), actually say that "The government isn't a bank. They shouldn't have anything to do with student loans."
I posted this on my Facebook with a picture of me with my happy notebook: "I refuse to be ashamed of that fact that I've had public funding to get my education. My mother is employed in the public sector for the Department of Education. I've gone to public schools. I drive on public roads. I use public libraries and archives for research. My garbage is not left to rot in the sun. I hope that the police will come and help me if I call 911. I don't have polio thanks to the federal government's distribution of the vaccine in the 1950s (and the kindness of Dr. Salk). The food I eat isn't as likely to kill me (or have bits of human flesh in it) as it would have in the 1930s. I'm not afraid of the public sector. I use it everyday, and I appreciate it. I love this country, and I love my President. God (or whatever deity/spiritual existence you identify with, or you don't have to have one at all) bless America."
The "Kenyen" is a nice touch. A Kenyen who was born in that foreign country Hawaii (you need a passport to go there!). Yep.
The President is with his people in this vid - I doubt Tea Partiers watch Fallon (way, waaaaay over their heads and definitely too subtle and lefty for them). They're much too busy watching the hate and misinformation spewed over on Fox News (much more their level).
