Honestly the whole finale reeked of "We ran out of ideas YEARS ago, so we'll throw together some cameos of old characters, rehash the same old crap, go for another "House is hallucinating" things and end it with a fake-out.
House wakes up in a burning building. There's a dead body next to him and he's speaking with Kutner (the protoge who killed himself a few years ago). House doesn't apparently remember how he got there. There's a bunch of flashing back out of order so that you knew that the dead guy was a patient, a heroine addict. Kutner said that it's clear that House hallucinated him because House has a suicide wish. The Cold Hearted-Bitch took over (the one who died when she was Wilson's girlfriend) and she made House remember more, that House diagnosed that the heroine addict was dying.
Meanwhile, for reasons that I'm not clear on because I haven't watched at all this season. House is supposed to be going back to jail because if Wilson dies... he has to go back to jail or something? I don't get it either.
And Wilson is searching for House because House has gone missing.
In flashbacks, heroine addict tells House that he'll take the fall for whatever it is that House did because... oh I don't know. Whatever. Hey, he'll be dead anyway. (Except somewhere in there heroine addict wasn't actually dying of the disease House diagnosed him of having. But, what the hell, heroine addict and House went on a bender, heroine addict died. in the building. SOMEHOW the building was set on fire and House was laying around hallucinating the whole time. Including hallucinated Cameron coming back with some "You need to forgive yourself and be happy" schtick.
So House decided he didn't want to die, just as he fell through the floor, an entire story. he started for the door. From the outside, Wilson (who miraculously found House) saw House start for the door, only a flaming beam landed on top of House. Then the BUILDING BLEW UP!
So Wilson and the other characters stood around as they firemen sifted through the building as they all said, but he's not really dead, right? But they found a body and matched the dental records.
So they had a funeral and everyone was making nice about even though House was an asshole he taught them stuff. Until Wilson stood up and said they needed to stop being absurd. House was just a raging asshole.
Wilson got a text message telling him to shut up.
So Wilson went out and House was sitting there, saying that he had swapped the dental records so that heroine dude would be indentified as him. He faked his own death so that he could be with Wilson during his last five months dying of cancer. As House and Wilson go riding off in the sunset Wilson makes House promise to take care of it when his cancer got bad enough. The end.

This sounds like a weird mixup of Sherlock's season finale, plus Boston Legal (Denny wanting Allan to shoot him when he gets bad). lol

ROTFL! What happened was that House caused major damage to the hospital, which was a violation of his parole (destruction of property being a crime and all) and he has to go back to jail. The problem is that he'd be in jail for 6 months, but Wilson only has 5 months to live. Woe!
See, I thought originally that House deliberately violated his parole to force Wilson to go through chemo. I still think that would have been more in character than whatever the hell this is.
That possibility hadn't occurred to me, but that would be more House-like, yeah.
Of course, since it's the end of the series, I imagine they wanted to finally give him the character growth they've been afraid of and make him a better person. Unfortunately, 8 seasons of stagnation and one episode of growth do not a coherent character arc make.
Like Buffy, House has had epiphanies before. And there's no reason that this one is more likely to stick than the other ones. In fact, it seems to me that once Wilson dies, House is likely to end up more self-destructive and misanthropic than ever.
I've spent the last few episodes being royally pissed with Wilson and his wah wah wah why me I'm too speshul to deal with cancer the way every single one of my patients has.
I honestly didn't watch this year. I was so damned pissed about "car through the dining room wall" that I only watched to see if House would either die or end up alone and miserable.
Frankly until the "WTF? That was a cheesy fake-out!" I was rather... bored. Just watch the last 5-10 minutes and you'll have the gist of it (and the only interesting bits).

No, it made no damn sense whatsoever.
