Okay, TV sucks tonight so I popped in a tape of Farscape and re-
watched "Dog with Two Bones." I like this ep more the second time
around. I can see so well now how "Two Bones" is setting up much of
the Season 4 arc. How utterly sad it is and how honest.

I loved how Crichton realizes that his two dreams are incompatible.
Again, it makes me wish for what could have been on BtVS.

Crichton facing up to the fact that his friends could never go to
earth and how his idea of a normal earthly life isn't viable because
of the enemies that he's made. I felt for Crichton and yet
respected him for recognizing the truth.

John: This isn't right.

Noranti: What is?

John: My life. My dreams. Earth. My friends. I tried to merge
the two. They're incompatible.

Noranti: Then choose one.

John: I can't go to earth, and my friends are all leaving.

N: You blame yourself.

J: A dog with two bones.

N: Unfamiliar.

J: A dog. It's a pet. It has this bone. It's the most important
thing in the world. One day he goes down to the water and he sees
another dog with a bone, reflected on the surface and he wants that
bone, too. So he opens his mouth to grab it...and his bone falls
into the water and disappears. It's gone. And he's left standing
there, looking at himself. He has nothing.

N: Is this dog smart enough to learn?

J: It's too late.

N: If the dog could only have one bone, which would it have wanted?

John: I'm going with you.

Aeryn: What do you want?

J: You.

A: It's not that simple for me .

J: Then say good-bye.

A: We don't say goodbyes.

J: We do this time. You see, you leave and then you come back, and
I can't handle the in between. Aeryn, say good-bye.

A: Fine. Good-bye, Crichton.

He catches her. J: John. My name is John. Good-bye, John. To my
face.

A: (angry) Guarentee you won't die in my arms!

J: Guarentee you won't die in mine!

A: I can! By leaving.

J: Do you love John Crichton?

A: Yes.

He kisses her.

J: Then what does that taste like?

(BEAT)

A: Yesterday.

J: Well, nobody can compete with that. I was better off dead.

A: I can't do this again.

J: And I can't let the one thing I love fly away in a crappy little
ship.

A: You once said that it's as if fate meant for us to be together.

J: I believe that.

A: Then if that's true, fate could bring us together again.

J: (Furious) running away is not FATE, Aeryn. Running away is
running away!... Fine. You want fate, I've got fate. Here.

A: What?

J: Coin toss.

A: What? That side up you stay?

J: Absolutely. Fate. (He tosses the coin)

She catches it.

A: Just make a frelling wormhole and go home,

J: There is no wormhole. There is no home. There's only y-- (beat)
Aeryn, anywhere in the universe...

A: It's too late for that.

J: No it isn't.

A: You're not listening! It's too late for me.

J: You do this and we'll never see each other again.

A: Do you love Aeryn Sun?

Long pause.

J: Beyond hope.

A: Then don't make me say goodbye and don't make me stay...

Joss, yu suck!

Why, why, WHY couldn't Buffy have faced up to these questions with
Angel, with Spike, with Chosen? Just can't bring characters to a sticking point, have GENUINE confrontations that aren't mostly bullshit.

Gah! (And don't get me on the Wrongda interview with JM. )
