Stuff about "Angel"...
Reaction to this week's ep: Eh. That may not be an objective reaction. There were actually a few interesting things in the episode. I liked the "I called shotgun"/"I thought it was a weapons check." I liked the Spike/Fred scene (though I do have my suspicions that it's not just Spike being "humble" but AtS deminishing what Spike did by dying. It was a two-for that way. ) I liked Spike trying to grab the 2X4. I liked Angel mentioning "The father will kill the son." So exactly why is it that in an episode that had many good points my general reaction is -- eh?
I'm just having a problem finding the heart of AtS Season 5. And I desperately miss the die-hard romantic in Spike. Emotionally, AtS in general seems somewhat flat and snarking and rivalry doesn't a real relationship make. I want to FEEL something about what's going on, and the main thing I feel is rampant distrust of the writers. Speaking of...
Reaction to Ep 8 spoilers for AtS:I freaking HATE the spoilers for this episode. I don't know if execution can make up for all the stuff I hate in this episode. I hate Sparmony. I hate the complete and utter POINTLESSNESS of Sparmony. I hate that it comes out of the blue and is only about David Fury making Spike look like a jackass. I hate the pissing contest between Spike and Angel. I hate that it ends with Angel thinking that Spike "might" be 'the one' because it means no way in hell IS Spike 'the one.' I hate Fury's portrayal of Spike in this. It's like Fury just HAS to get his kicks in at Spike and he did a stellar job in this one of turning Spike into a jackass. Ugh!
On the other hand, at least there's some passion in reaction to Ep 8 spoilers. Where Ep 7 is concerned...
Reaction to Ep 7 spoilers: Well, that was... disappointing, actually. Weslely's father shows up... and the ep is all about Angel. (Eyeroll). And who couldn't guess that Weslely's father is a cyborg? That's M.E. Everyone gets a convenient "out" unless they're Spike... or Cordelia.
Reaction to Ep 9 spoilers:So we're supposed to be feeling sorry for Harmony now? What happened to all that bullshit about needing souls to be good? And why exactly did we need a Harm-centric ep? This is beginning to resemble BtVS Season 7 where ME is going no where fast.
Reaction to Ep 10 spoilers:I actually like the Spike rescue scenes. But I tend to think that the Blue Fairy scene may have me throwing shoes at the tv set. There's just something very mocking in that. Not enough is known to have a really good bead on the ep and whose nightmare this clearly is. But why is it that Spike can never get any respect? Because he's never HAD any respect that Blue Fairy scene really rubs me the wrong damn way. I think the rescues are hilarious, but I don't take Spike mocking well any longer. And I'm still waiting for the "honoring the sacrifice." I said at the time that ME started mouthing that bullshit that it was codespeak for "we're going to make Spike a ghost" and that pretty much seems that's all it was. Just an excuse so that they would go the ghost route. It didn't mean anything else. And how abyssmally stupid is it that they had Spike resurrected by amulet in the mail... then in Ep 8 he's made corporeal by something sent in the mail. So what in the freaking HELL was the point of 8 episodes of ghostliness if they were just going to make him corporeal the same STUPID way they brought him back in the first place? (shaking my head).
Fanfic Rec: Cousinjean's "The Butterfly Effect" I like cousinjean's Buffy a hell of a lot more than the one on the show. I can't convince myself that the one in the story is like the one on the show, but since I like this one better -- what the hell. It's more enjoyable than Season 7 actually was. It's Spuffy and it made me cry for Spike.
